Yep, he got kicked, I dunno what exactly happened other than that. I don't know a ton about horses, but he looked fine to me almost the whole way.

horrible coverage by ESPN/ABC. instead of showing the winning horse, it's all about a last place horse. sickening

I just hope they don't have to euthanize the horse... And I hope PETA has no involvement.

If something happens and Big Brown does have to be euthanized, it's going to get messy from a PR standpoint. Honestly, I can't take much more of PETA.

Why would the horse be put down? Have y'all heard anything about a life threatening injury?:eek:hmy:

wow, why would you jeopardize the triple crown by not taking the steroids? they screwed themselves over there

I might be an evil person for this but I think the jockey pull him out of the race just because he knew he wasn't going to win and make people think the horse was injured for the excuse of not winning, even though the horse was checked and was said to be fine by vets. The Belmont Stakes is the long of the 3 races and obviously this horse didn't have what it took on that day

That’s why you run the race gentlemen.

As far as what some of the questions/statements have been.

Putting the horse down-Not at all the horse was fine and still is.

Juiced-Yes he wasn't given his scheduled May 15th dose. But young horses have very little improvement by juice. Just like with humans roids help rebuild muscle and shorten recovery time. He was fine and the evidence is that he actually gained weight between the Preakness and the Belmont.

Hoof-His wheels were fine and ready and had nothing to do with the out come.

My take. The horse was over trained by having his routine changed and with young horses routine is so important. Also the next time you see footage of the race you will see that of all the horses you see in the lead as they head out of the gate he is the only horse showing kidney sweat (sweat between his hind legs) and that is a sign of a nervous horse. Nerves strip a horse of his energy almost as much as actually running then you add that he got boxed in and had to actually be pulled up and over. Once he finally got outside he was spent and it was over.

In short he got beat. It happens to horses everyday. Hell even the greatest horse of all time Secretariat lost.

Good post Volbeef..

Thanks man.

But it amazes me that trainers do this. They get too smart. If you remember with Smarty Jones his trainers did almost the EXACT thing.
But this proves just how impressive winning the TC is.

I bought into the hype and still think he was the best horse in the race. But Slick Nick Zito is one of the best and especially at Belmont. The man is deadly!

To Nicky Z :salute:

Sorry that Big Brown couldn't do it, but so glad to see Rick Dutrow be forced to drink a steaming cup of STFU.

:dance2:

He's annoying.

he looked like he spilled about 5 of them on his shirt.

How about if you're a chubby sort, don't wear blue shirt in stifling heat when jillions of TV shots will be taken.

No kidding. It was embarrassing, and I don't like the guy.

i have heard arguments for each side and both have valid points. bottom line, it wasn't Big Brown's day.
