Breaking News: Knoxville Human Trafficking?

it's probably "attempted" human trafficking

Or they discovered more as they went along. With that wide of a sweep, I'm pretty sure the cops didn't find all of them by themselves. They likely flipped some and got the names of others.

I am probably wrong and the guy is just a sicko but what if he was reaching out to these girls to try to help get them off the streets?

I agree. I'm not trying to defend this, but it doesn't sound like human trafficking. It sounds wrong and illegal, but who was trafficked? It seems like there were no actual children involved, just police pretending to be kids. But I could be misunderstanding.

I agree. First, I am glad these people were caught and attention brought to their crimes. After the prostitution charge, and maybe some aggravated intent for the additional facts of attempting to engage a minor, the language used is misleading. There were no real human living, breathing victims of any age. You have to extrapolate an entire story in conjunction with the crime committed to come up with that language. Again, I'm glad they are in trouble, and that trouble should be multiplied and magnified, but this language is pretending it is something that isn't there. I mean under this theory, he could be charged with statutory rape because he intended to commit that crime ultimately. This just seems to be a stretch to sensationalize what happened. I understand wanting to do that, but it shouldn't be done unjustly.

The misleading headline and confusticating body of the story is why I never, ever pay for hardcopy news. Newsmen/women? They've all turned to shiet and this is a prime example. I'd fire the writer, his/her copy editor, and the bozo head editor, ... hire some 5th graders for the jobs, cause, you know ... they're smarter.

I'm pretty sure each of them responded to an ad placed on a well known website. It was more or less your typical john round-up, but with the added twist of the men being offered what they believed to be an underage female, and accepting that offer.

They didn't take down any sort of ring leader or anything like that, which is disappointing but I'll refrain from any further political discussion. Got a couple of sicko's willing to pursue underage women, so that is a positive. Vast majority of those arrested looked like they just got dinged for either hooking or arranging a deal with a hooker, nothing to do with trafficking.

The story as reported by the news was that he went to the website, contacted the girl, showed up at the hotel they arranged, laid the $100 they had agreed to on the counter, and was then busted. Doesn't sound like an outreach ministry to me.

Neither do asinine comments that bear no relation to the overall topic.

It was relevant to the post I quoted. Long investigations into things like this don't bring in revenue. Tickets and prostitution stings take little effort compared to the dollars collected

I stand corrected. Police using sensationalism to try and make it sound worse than it is. I mean the children stuff is sick but most are just prostitutes and Johns.
