I really think that Brent is getting robbed he hasent even been giving a chance in the games with GA and Florida.i know people say look at the fumbles but they wasent his fault,if they dont give this kid a chance [and by chance i mean more than 1 series in a game]. I mean we saw what he could do against unlv and Florida when he had that huge run i mean you gotta give him a chance to play im not trying to start a fuss i like what is happening right now but i think we are kinda pushing a excellent Player out of his spot.

CFP has already said that Brent will play at leadt two series aginst Ole Miss.

Me I like the idea of BS returning punts. Why wouldn't you want the ball in his hands open feild with his cuuting ability.

Fulmer philosphy get your best atheletes on the feild and give them the chacne to make plays.

I agree that he should get a chance to play but in games such as Georgia when he came in it was not the time. Eric was moving the team, putting points on the board. You do not break that kind of monemtum in a game as big as that was to TEnnessee.

Let's analyze game-by-game.

Brent Shaeffer has started 3 games: UNLV, Florida, and La.Tech
has commanded 18 possessions for 42pts

Erik Ainge has started 2 games: Auburn and Georgia
has commanded 38 possessions for 94 pts

Commentary: UNLV - the UNLV game was never in doubt as both quarterbacks looked good. Florida- With the Vols down against Florida early, 7-0, Shaeffer led the Vols to a TD. However, later in the game on 2 drives in a row, with the Vols behind, 21-14, Shaeffer had a 3-and-out and a critical fumble. All 3 possessions that Ainge had where the Vols were behind [21-14... 28-21... 28-27] he led to scores and ultimately the victory. LT- The first 2 possessions against La Tech, led by Shaeffer, went nowhere. Ainge entered the game with the Vols already behind 7-0 to La Tech and led the Vols to a TD. The next possession the Vols were again down 14-7 and Ainge led the Vols to another TD. Auburn - Ainge played poorly from the beginning. However, with the Vols down 7-0, he did lead the team down the field for a field goal. His fumble at the goal was critical on the 3rd possession. With the Vols down 14-3 (and then 17-3) and needing a pick-me-up.... Shaeffer threw an interception and had a 3-and-out on consecutive possessions. Ainge showed just enough moving the offense on the next 2 possessions, 119 yards team offense, however, those drives ended with 2 interceptions deep into Auburn territory. The next possession, Shaeffer came in with the Vols down 31-3, but could not muster any offense. Ainge came in the next possession and led the Vols to their only TD of the game. Georgia- Ainge pushed the Vols out to a 10-0 lead over the heavily favored Dawgs. Shaeffer didn't get much chance to prove himself in this game... but with the Vols winning in a tight game, there was not much of an opportunity for him to get into the game. "If it ain't broke, don't fix'it"

Is that fuzzy math?

:dunno:

You'll have to be more specific. Is there an error?

I got and broke down all this info off of utsports.com, the official website of the University of Tennessee Athletic Department.

Brent is pressing, he is having trouble feeling pressure and is turning the ball over, plus his runs first attitude on pass plays and that could be because he is having some trouble with UT passing scheme. Give him time right now UT's playbook has clicked for Ainge alot sooner than it has for Schaeffer.

I Think They r both Great QBs. And they should get the same amount of playing time.

I f they had gotten = amounts of playing time we would have lost to the gators and the dawgs, Brent will get his chance to shine against Olmiss, bama, kent, and vandy.

You are geting to the meat of the SEC schedule for UT and they can not just go 3 for one and then 3 for the other. If one is clicking you had better stick with that one because any one of these teams that UT has left to play could be like another MEmphis game for years ago when UT went there with peyton and Lost.

It has to be ONE game at a TIME

We're not worthy!!!

Great post Allvol - you come up with some amazing stats and info to share with us...

Both qbs have had chances to prove themselves. How can you say those fumbles are not his fault?

UT has been in the meat of their schedule for the last 3 weekends unlike Bama

Being robbed is having something stolen from you. Is Brent getting robbed...no. Brent is in a two way competition for playing time, just as he knew he would be when he signed with the Vols. Actually, he had about 4 other QBs to beat out, as a freshman to be the starting QB. Seems like he's already started about 3 games. So tell me, how is he "getting Robbed?"

The only QB controversy that exists at UT lives on the internet chat rooms. Let this go. Brent and the coaches will do the right thing.

I just think that they should play him more his ability will never get showed if he cant express it against the big teams.i am not trying to start nothing so lets try not to get so defensive.

They've said all along they are going to go with the guy with the hot hand...if Schaffer doesn't score and put together good drives consistently and that costs a game, then folks would be back in hear typing out "what was Full Pilmer thinking?...he needs to go!!!"

Brent is not getting a fair shake because they aren't even putting in the same plays as Ainge.Everybody in the stadium and the other teams know they will only let Brent run. You can't get hot throwing one pass. I would like to see Brent in 4 wide sets like Ainge and he throw 35 times to. I love the Vols to death but they are trying to make Ainge the next Manning but Manning didn't win nothing. All of those games Ainge was messing up especially the Auburn game they rode it out and now we got a lose and it is looking like a uphill battle to get back in the title hunt. Thanks Phil. By the way.... Phil and Randy need to stop saying C0-starters when that is not happing.I would be happy if they just come out and say Ainge is 1 and Brent is 2.You can't pull the wool over my eyes. Maybe Chris Leak was right about not able to trust them. Go vols and and keeep kicking butts in spite of our coaches

Screw Chris Leak. The best man is out there right now.Like I posted before,Ainge shows much more poise than Schaeffer.I agree that Schaeffer hasn't got the playin time but CPF see's better decision making in Ainge right now.

I agree with VOLMAN Brent is not getting the same plays that Angie is getting you can say what you want about a stat but Brent is put in to run the ball or hand off way was Angie left in the game against Auburn and not Brent if Fulmer goes with who is hot Brent never had a chance to heat up.

If he transfer it would be in his best interest because they will only hold him on the side lines look at CJ they knew they were not going to play CJ when Clausen was there and he should have been able to transfer also but they told him he could play. Go Vols and stop those lies to players.

Brent doesn't get the same play because he is a different type of qb than Ainge is. When they have called plays for him to just drop straight back and throw, he has had trouble making the reads and getting the ball out of his hand in time. Ainge has outplayed Schaeffer. That is why he has the job.

:shakehead: Here we go again - we beat 2 top 10 teams and lead the SEC East with Freshmen at QB and an inexperienced secondary . . . but somehow you think we did it all in spite of our coaches. :shakehead:

Shaeffer has had his bright moments. However, when a passing play is called, he sometimes tucks and runs very quickly if there is pressure. He's also been sacked and fumbled on passing plays.

The key is production. Whichever quarterback is producing is going to play. Against Auburn, even though Ainge had some turnovers, he moved the offense down the field into scoring position. When the Vols really needed a lift against Auburn, kinda like Shockley did for Georgia last week, he failed to move the team at all. I guess the coaches could have brought Rick Clausen into the game after that.... but Ainge did lead the Vols to a touchdown on the next possession.

FYI - Shaeffer self admits that he likes to throw off the run better than in the pocket. He even said that he throws better when rolling out. If you've got copies of the first couple of Phil Fulmer shows, go back and watch his interviews. I think the coaches want to call plays that keep the quarterbacks in their comfort zone.
