I'm hearing he will not academically qualify this year. Anyone have an update on this?

No, but that would devistate Ole Miss. Their season would be over before it started.

Is it just me or does it seem like the NCAA is using the clearinghouse to try and create more parity among the teams?

I don't know, but as much money as the NCAA's got, you'd think they could afford to put enough people on that staff to make it move at least slightly faster than a glacier...

Read on another board that someone has the inside track and is close to his mom. They said he is enrolled in summer school and should be finished and ready to play in August practice.

Sorry, no link though.

That's not going to be a whole lot of help to Ole Miss. If he is struggling that much then he will have to really concentrate on his studies, which means very little time to study playbooks, etc. IMO a lot of Ole Miss' offense this year will just revolve around Schaffer's natural athletic ability moreso than any scheme or design paly package. Kind of like the playground, if you see someone open you chuck it if not tuck it and run for your life.

Isn't that what he did while he was here???

I certainly wouldn't call that a crazy statement. I thought the same thing a while back, so it can't be crazy.

If this kid gets one year at Ole Miss it will be a miracle. He won't go to class and unless Orgy lets him fly under the academic radar then he should never even see the field. If he does play this year then I wouldn't be surprised to see him bolt to the league since he will be 3 years removed from H.S.

I'm curious, what position would he play in the league? He certainly hasn't shown that he's a capable qb at the next level. Maybe I'm just hatin' because he's not a Vol anymore.

He doesn't care. As long as he is not in school. An agent will tell he can leave early and be a third round pick as a athlete type guy ala Antwan Randle El. No way he goes that high, but you aren't dealing with a guy that is too bright. Obviously he didn't want to go to class here and it sounds like he doesn't want to do the work to get into Ole Miss.

Agreed. I don't think Brent's the type of guy who'll turn the corner academically. What's really frustrating is seeing these world-class talents come through Knoxville and losing them because they can't get their act together academically or behaviorally. I hate to imagine what might have been if we could have gotten more maturity out of Brent Schaeffer, James Banks, Onterrio Smith, Raymond Henderson, etc.

The really sad part is if you cant get it together academically at UT, then you might have a hard time getting a HS diploma from University High!

Ole Piss will not be a factor anyway. They have no offensive line play and therefore no offense.

Ole "Piss" with BS could very well be a bowl team, and at worst 5-7.

When it's all said and done, Brent Schaeffer is nothing more than a headache.

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that I really hope he succeeds. I have no lost love for BS. He IS a heck of an athelete, and I hope he does well in summer school and gives the Ole Miss offense a much-needed boost.

Schedule:

For sure wins: Memphis, Vanderbilt, Northwestern St, Mississippi State

Toss-ups: @ Kentucky, Wake Forest, @ Alabama, @ Missouri

For sure losses: Georgia, @ Arkansas, Auburn, @ LSU

If Mississippi wins 2 of the toss-ups, they're bowl bound. Without BS, they have 2 for sure wins (NW St, Vandy)

As far as their OLine: They have 3 returning starters and I think 5 or 6 players with starting experience. They also hired the old OLine coach from Miami. They also have Michael Oher, who was 1st Team Freshman SEC and a future 1st round pick, if not a top 10 pick. They will be very very improved.

I agree. I hope he does well. Maybe Coach Orgy will have an impact in his life and he'll turn out to be a good college QB.
