He will have plenty of time with Ainge. I got no problem with two of the biggest playmakers in this class rooming together.

Well, you can rest assured that we don't have anyone that actually runs a 4.2. And although I like the receivers we are bringing in, history is not kind to freshmen receivers. Being a receiver isn't all about running streaks.

With Ainge and Cut, I'm sure we can be average at worst, but if we want anything more than a courtesy Citrus appearance, they'll need to be a lot better than that.

this is just flat out wrong. Doesn't anyone remember how good Donte Stallworth, Kelley Washington, and James Banks were their first year playing reciever? And don't even compare O'Neil to a freshman. He has 2 or 3 starts under his belt when he was at FSU. He'll be a junior when he gets to UT. And when he was at FSU, he was barely expected to play at first when they recruited him. They were absolutely loaded at WR. Vinson's impact is arguable, but Kenny O'Neal's impact is flat out not arguable.

Donte was redshirted, so you can't compare him to a (possible) true freshman, and Washington was of drinking age and played minor league baseball.

Even if I submitted that all 3 of those players are legit examples (James Banks?), that is still only 3 examples out of a ton of freshmen receivers. The fact remains that they usually don't step up immediately. I grant you that this is one of the best classes we've had as far as receivers, but still, the risk is high.

That is because they usually don't have to step up early on. There are usually more experienced players and as a result they aren't called upon untill their sophmore or junior years. However, nearly every freshman reciever the Vols have gotten that were expected to make contributions their freshman year, have.

Examples? I know Briscoe, Hancock, Taylor, Swain, and Smith all had very small contributions as true freshmen.

They weren't expected to make contributions. It doesn't happen very often because we are usually so deep at WR, but the ones that were expceted to make contributions include Donte Stallworth and Cedric Wilson, both whom had good true freshman years.

I think it's fair to say that Tennessee plays the best receivers. Fulmer has never "hidden" a freshman receiver just because he was a freshman. If all of the other receivers we had were better than the guys we already had, then they would've played.

Cut will find a way to get them the ball. Rogers can be our receiver over the middle. Good hands and not afraid of contact. O'Neal and Vinson will make sure the safety's stay back so the middle should be wide open.
It will help the TE's get open too with all that speed on the outsides. I am ready to see some screens to Gerald Jones too. That kid is lightning.

I'm just not really high on O'Neal at all

how can you say that? He may be the fastest player in college football this year. He has a sub 10.3 100m. He started WR at FSU for a couple games as a true freshman on a team that was loaded with WR talent. He wasn't even expected to barely play his freshman year. If you're not high on him now, you will be by the end of the season, that I can guarantee.

I don't know your definition of true freshman, but by NCAA standards, he is a true freshman. He has lost no eligibility and is still capable of redshirting.

I didn't realize that. So you can go Prep school and still redshirt?? I thought prep school counted as a redshirt year.
