Alex Bullard Off. Lineman 6-3/275

Barry Dabney Def. Tackle 6-1/271

Thad McHaney Def. End/Tight End 6-5/220

Three talented players, all good friends and we need to land all of them

Doesnt it seem like we have a hard time getting guys out of here? Maybe it's me, but it seems like they head to Auburn.

Most of the off and def line I played with growing up went there. One went to Bama, another Furman (didn't have great size), one went to TSU (no motor) and I think one went to Clemson. It does seem like we lose a bunch of those players to the state of Alabama for some reason.

Bullard is of maximum importance to this class.I saw on an Alabama thread that someone asked Chris Jordon of Brentwood ,at their A-day game, if he knew if Bullard was interested in the tide ,and Jordan just kinda laughed and said:Man he's all about Tennessee.Of coarse this could of been a Vol fan rattling some cages, but I have also heard some people say he has been seen wearing Tennessee shirts.Whatever the case we need him.
Bullard and Moses would be a nice start.Throw in a Eric Shrive and Long is long forgotten.

Heres the thing about Brentwood Academy. Carlton Flatt was never PRO UT and was rumored to actually steer kids away from UT.

Now they have a new coach, Ralph Potter who is pro UT and BJ Colemans former coach.

You can bet from now on we will get more than a fair shot at the kids from Brentwood.

I can tell you that a friend I played with told me Flatt did steer him away. He had been offered a scholly from UT and Bama, among others and chose Bama.

Flatt is a teacher in Rutherford County. He is no longer at Brentwood Academy.

It seems to you? Bullard is suspected to be a UTK lean. So why does it 'seem to you' they are going to Auburn.

I have heard this many times regarding athletes at BA.

BA uses a talent maximizing system. They get more out of their kids than most anyone else could get from the same kids because they know how to coach and they can do things in the name of team building that public schools might not be able to get away with. Bottom line, BA players are taught to respect and appreciate good coaching and player development. How that factors in to any problems, real or perceived, that UTK has in recruiting that program is open for interpretation.

Last year there was some scuttlebutt about Flatt maybe taking the coaching job at Oakland (I think, could've been Riverdale). I doubt he will ever find his way back to BA.

let me clarify. it "seems to me" that BA sends alot of players to Auburn. I never once mentioned Bullard and Auburn.

I think Flatt was at BA for 35 years. He sent 10 players to UTK from a total of 70 kids who signed college scholarships for football. Some of those (70) kids went to small schools. I'd say the Vols got a good chunk of the Eagles' best talent.

Man, I remember when my school (Ravenwood) barely lost to those mofos.

There for a good time they were as close to unbeatable as high school teams can get. My best friend played there during that period. I almost went when they recruited me but was too hard headed and a little scared of the academics to tell you the truth. Jeff Speedy was a great option qb for them. Many good players over the years.

Sure we got a few from there but not getting at least 50% from an in state school thats not in Memphis is just not right. Its not like they are recruiting these kids from all around the country. The only true outsider was Jordan who was a transplant from GA.

Even the kids who did go to UT most likely had the same birdie in their ears about where they should go.

Too many times in the past his name came up as an influence on them going elsewhere, especially Auburn, to say he wasnt biased. I never once heard he influenced a kid to goto UT.

You can bet now that hes gone you will see more than %50 of the d1 kids we go after from there will be wearing orange.

I don't know if the BA-AU pipeline theory ever held water, but it would only make sense that a H.S. coach directs his players to a coach/program that he respects and expects to offer the most to his players. I've never been a huge fan of Coach Flatt, but the guy knows football. If he did push kids away from UTK (again I am not saying he did) then there was probably a very good reason for it.
