I don't know if the BA-AU pipeline theory ever held water, but it would only make sense that a H.S. coach directs his players to a coach/program that he respects and expects to offer the most to his players. I've never been a huge fan of Coach Flatt, but the guy knows football. If he did push kids away from UTK (again I am not saying he did) then there was probably a very good reason for it.

Im pretty sure that Flatt was not a fan of Majors or Fulmer. Im not saying that he pointed kids away from Tennessee, but you can bet he didnt do anything to help the state's flagship university.

Flatt doesnt like UT. He didnt come out and tell his player (that I know of), and say NOT to go to UT, but he definately did steer them away. You have to remember, Auburn is like a private school. Lots of wealthy kids there. Kids from MBA, Brentwood Acadamy, Father Ryan, BGA, and even Brentwood to some extent, go to Ole Miss and Auburn just as regular students all the time.

I do see a lot of AU plates in Williamson Co. these days but to some extent I think things are cyclical. When I was at BA and BHS, many of the kids I knew who went to the schools you mentioned were heading to Bama (and Samford and Birmingham Southern) in droves. Bama used to send out scholarship offers based on your SAT/ACT score (I got one completely unsolcited in the late 1980s). I think there were years that the number of kids going to Samford from Brentwood (city) alone was 45-50, maybe more.

I definitely think of Ole Miss as an old money school. I just never really thought of AU that way. Most of the people I know who went to AU, went there to become engineers and they would've prefered to go to GaTech or somewhere in North Carolina if the option had been avaiable.

Auburn is like a private school? I have a friend at Auburn right now. Never thought of Auburn being private. I would think there is just as much as money (if not more) at UT (the "U" of a state is usually quite wealthy) as opposed to Auburn (where engineering is the main major).

you misunderstand. AU is not private, but it has the "feel" of a private school. Very frat/sorty oriented and their houses are big money. their frat row puts Tennessee's to shame.

I've always heard that frats are so big at the Mississippi and Alabama schools because there's nothing else to do in Oxford, Auburn, etc.

UTK has them all beat on the in-town muder rate at least. What the heck is going on over there? It's not even hot outside yet.

I can tell you why Samford.
1: Lots of money there
2: Christian based school in the heart of the Bible Belt
3: Offer a LOT of sports that a kid of good talent but not GREAT talent can go and play on scholarship.
