Brian Darden

Manning was the #1, just not according to Lemming. Most other services had him at #1. Darden wasn't #1.

I'd rather look at the list of previous #1s. Terrelle Pryor, Jimmy Clausen, Percy Harvin, Derrick Williams, Adrian Peterson, Ernie Sims, Vince Young. Not too bad.

I remember this guy, I had high expectations for him and he was a real bust. Nilo Silvan anyone? Darden Was class of 1996.

Nilo can't be considered a bust. Anyone else remember the situation with him ,Kent and Kent's girl back in 95.
Also anyone remember when Ktown's own L. Thompson was the #2 tb in '87 right behind none other than E. Smith one of the few gators I ever liked.

Yes... Al allegedly also looked at the coaches and asked, "And you gave this guy a scholarship?"

I heard a different version of the story, but it was from the mouth of a former UT offensive lineman on the radio. He said Darden was running his mouth in practice as a freshman, and the OL decided to let Leonard Little come through unblocked. No more mouth-running.

That's an interesting history lesson but not one that makes me worry about Brown.

My my my.... Who would have thunk it? The Devonte Bourque thread got me to thinking about this, but I didn't realize (or just forgot) that Bryce Brown was the catalyst for creating this thread. Very interesting turn of events for Brown and Bourque.

If I remember correctly Darden was in the same class as Randy Moss and they were featured on some ESPN special , maybe it was CBS.
But I always heard he got scared after a practice and was never the same.

He was. Because "Jamal Lewis didn't know his blocks."
Amazing that he was able to learn them so well that he started the remainder of the year.........the very week after we lost to Florida.

That shouted "Fulmer is a dumb@ss" to me....even if Levine knew his blocking assignments he only weighed about 165 if memory serves.....who was he going to stop?

That whole thing pissed me off to no end. IMO, if we had any kind of running game against FL that year, we win big(sound familiar :)) Then Jamal starts next game and runs for something like 180. I was livid!!!!

I remember Darden. Got on the field and looked like he was a first time football player and scared to death

I keep seeing his name as a huge, huge bust and being compared to Bryce Brown, as Brian Darden was also the #1 recruiting prospect and played running back.

I really don't remember him playing at all. Can anyone give me some info on him, like when he played... etc?

Wore # 8 at Tennessee and was one of pre-Rivals top 9 All Purpose Backs signed in 1995. Did not play in 95.

Lettered in 1995 and 1996

1996 as a true freshman

26 rushes for 97 yards and 1 TD; 0 Pass Receptions

1997 as a Sophomore

14 rushes for 33 Yards O TDs; 1 reception for 13 yards

Transferred to Jackson State in Mississippi where he finished college career as a defensive back.

I've never been able to determine any stats from Jackson State.

Peyton wasn't from Mississippi. New Orleans La.

I thought he was the #1 recruit. Booty was from La to. Shrevport I believe.

Booty was the # 1 recruit in Louisiana and in the nation with Peyton # 2

Not sure why this was bumped, but let me add that Darden also apparently cussed out Randy Sanders when Sanders was the RB coach and IIRC this was the proximate cause of his dismissal, though as others point out he had not accomplished much anyway.

Which is to say...hey he did ONE THING right. :eek:lol:

Yeah...not a Sanders fan here. :)

Sanders is no OC but he is a hell of a RB coach.
Oh and not a bad QB coach, lest you forget that he is currently QB coach at FSU. His current team seems to be doing OK.

I attended the last game we played at Legion Field; I think it was 97. Darden was the starting kick returner. After the game I gave several player high fives through the chain link fence; Darden being one of them. After a big win, you could tell by his body language that he was just going through the motions.
