Brian Kelly staying at Cincinnati

That's certainly good news for UC. He is a fine coach.

Though I still think Coach Kelly would have been a good fit in Knoxville, I'm excited about the new direction that Coach Kiffin is headed. Go Vols!

Sounds like he's just saying that because Tennessee and ND passed on him. If ND comes knocking again next year he won't be saying the same thing.

You should be excited about a young vibrant coach coming to Knoxville. As a native of the Queen City, I'm happy Coach Kelly is staying. With all the talent in the area, there's no reason why Cincinnati can't move into the national scene for the forseeable future.

You don't know that. He may have been offered UT for all we know.

That's true - I don't know if he was offered or not. But if ND comes calling next year he's gone.

True, but if some school finally offers him a larger pay day in a more attractive area with better facilities it would be hard to say no. He's a winner, and someone will eventually come with an offer he may not be able to refuse.

ND cant or wont pay the buyout for CCW. CBK will be the coach after a subpar 2009 for ND.

Weis will likely get fired next year, or asked to leave with some sweet buyout. kelly will likely take the job then.

Right. You can't fault a guy for making his life better.

With his salary and bonuses, I think he'll make close to what Kiffin is making at UT this season. Nippert Stadium is also in line for major upgrades as well. In other words, the deal he has at Cincinnati is not that bad at all, but I do understand your point. Notre Dame is Notre Dame.

I think it is funny he is not interested in any other jobs now that UT hired Kiffin. I understand he was very interested but he wanted to wait until after the Bearcats season was over and UT passed on him. Not sure if true, but this is what I heard.

Was actually the opposite from what people have said on this board. That he was trying to rush the process... then he kind of backed down after the ND rumors started.

Coach Kelly didn't want to talk to any other schools while the Bearcats season was ongoing. This is according to the things I've read in the Cincinnati papers. Coach Kelly told his agents, "Keep this stuff off my desk."

Don't blame him. Looks like most of the jobs he was connected with have closed up, other than Washington anyway.

Sounds to me if Kelly was as good as advertised he would follow the money and get one of the many job openings that is available this year. I am sure Syracuse or Miss. St could pay him more then Natti IMO. There is always a flip side by staying as he is in a weak conference and show progress from this year he could milk ND for alot more money.

Folks it ain't always about the money. Kelly was my first choice but Cinci is doing the right thing in doing what it takes to keep Kelly for now. I'm in Cinci all the time and it's a cool city IMO. Sure there are some area's that I wouldn't want to be in at times but most cities have that unless your talking about a college town. And though Cinci is a basketball school...football is the money maker. Kelly can have a great career there and though the Big East ain't the SEC...any given saturday things can happen.

Besides, if he does decide to move one day I would think he'd be more interested in the Michigan job if it comes available.

Its true - its not always about the money - except when you're at a big east school like Cincinnati.

I don't buy that.

It doesn't matter if you buy it or not... it's the truth.

While I don't see Coach Kelly roaming the Bearcat sidelines for the long haul, the UC administration is pouring mega dollars into upgrading facilities and bolstering the recruiting budget. He'll stay put for another couple of years.

kelly's like all coaches---if he's not #1, he issues a statement saying "he's not interested in leaving"! LOL---anyone who thinks Kelly would not leave a mediocre Cincinnati program for Notre Dame or Tennessee is taking some strong drugs.

just like Pearl wouldn't stay at UT when other jobs at basketball schools arose... Oh wait

I heard him on Jim Rome Monday and he didn't sound like he was going to stay at Cincinnati. He may still, be he kept his future plans open and wouldn't say that cincy wasn't a stepping stone.
