What is the general vibe in Baton Rouge about Brian Kelly right about now? LSU fans have not been very high on him yet, but does anyone think this win helped him gain clout with Tiger fans? Honestly curious. I put the over/under of his tenure at LSU at 3.5 years and I’d take the under with a gun to my head.

Brian Kelly was the right choice for the job. Not gonna lie it was kinda cool to see them beat bama and the speech he gave seemed genuine after.

They are very encouraged with him beating Bama in year 1 after winning 3 games and having roster exodus.

Of course, they were apoplectic at the decision to go for 2 in overtime before they converted.

LSU fans run hot & cold.

I actually think he will blow it so bad at LSU. Think about what he did at Notre Dame. Have the illusion of a great team that makes the playoffs, but then gets drummed by 40 in every playoff game he’s ever played in? Well, making the playoff but getting drummed by 40 is his ceiling. And for all of you people who say yeah, but that was at Notre Dame, for your information, coaches have actually won championships at Notre Dame, so just stop making excuses for these people who can’t win where other people have.

There is a clear talent gap between Notre Dame and LSU recruiting…. Kelly has shown he is a good coach. If he recruits at a high level, he will be fine at LSU. That school recruits itself.

He is a good coach. He’s always the 3-5 best coach in the country every year. And until some people hang it up, that’s where he will stay.

The landscape was infinitely different in 1988 when ND won their last championship. People won at Nebraska too and I genuinely think I’ll not live to see Nebraska win another national championship and I’m 37. He was significantly out-talented by Clemson and Bama in their playoff appearances.

You are right on all accounts. I’m not trying to debate history with you. I’m telling you that Kelly is not up there with the coaches of either era, and his resume shows that. I’ve never heard of a winner who **** the bed at one place, but took it home at another.

Brian Kelly is doing a great job at LSU it looks like LSU will go 10-2 and make the SECCG in his first season at LSU.

Your posts contradict each other.
They do not. He is what he is. There are people here who say if only Kiffin could get millions of NIL money and a big stage, he could win it all. You are saying the same about Kelly. Rockne, Neyland, the Bear, Dooley, hell, even Saban and Meyer, none of them needed special gimme’s. They just went out and beat people. If you are great, it will show. If you are perineal 3rd place, that will show too. He couldn’t get it done in a situation where others have. The modern SEC is not the place for a guy like that to succeed.

I know there were several people on this board who said he wasn’t a good coach. They look like idiots now.

Brian Kelly possibly going 10-2 and winning the SEC West after losing to Tennessee 40-13 is similar to Steve Spurrier's 1990 Florida team getting beaten 45-6 by Tennessee and going 9-2.

That's about the dumbest thing ever posted.

LSU is on pace to win 11 games this year. I think they lose to UGA and would be decent favorite in any NY6 game.

Kelly coming doing a 5 game improvement in wins in his first year is pretty amazing considering the narrative and reception in media about him bolting ND for LSU
