Can anyone pls explain to me why Brian Kelly is considered a great coach? If u go back and look up his games Bama in '22 is the only team he has beaten going back to Notre Dame that has equal or more talent. He only beats teams with less talent. I don't get why the media is so enamored by him. Pls and thank u. GO VOLS

He has never impressed me. I just remember him as a hot head jumping around on the sidelines all red in the face. His teams played OK but never seemed to excel. To me, he has always seemed kinda average. Come to think of it, he reminds me of an upscale Butch Jones.

He’s pretty much a modern day Fulmer.

Great recruiter who’ll win you around 9-10 games but that’s it.

I don't know if anybody considers him a great coach. I think many people consider him to be a pretty good coach. I don't think it is particularly easy to go 113-40, with a national title game appearance and 3 other top 10 finishes, at Notre Dame in today's game.

What he's done so far at LSU I think is less impressive than what he did at ND, although he's completely capable of winning a national title at LSU because of the program LSU is. He had a Heisman-winning QB last year yet still lost 3 games because the defense was so bad, and it doesn't exactly appear to be fixed so far this year. The two coaches they had before him are complete clowns and played for 3 titles in 13 seasons, winning 2 of them. I think he also gets more heat at LSU because he's an odd cultural fit there.

Also, the vast, vast majority of successful coaches are beating teams with less talent. The entire point of the sport is to take the field with more talent than your opponent. How many games did Saban or does Kirby win with less talent than the team he's playing?

Go back and look at all the college media when LSU hired him. All media thinks he's a great coach. Not a good coach a great one. So it made me go and do research. Not only does he lose most big games, he gets blown out in big games a lot

Well, he’s way more than is apparently required at LSU, so maybe they had to say he was great. They were thinking he’d win a natty easily. Great compared to O? Smart compared to Miles? Just making this up

Kelly is a very good coach.
He won at 9 at Central Mich 1 season. That was good coaching.
He won 10, 11, and 12 at Cincy. That is phenomenal coaching.
He had 7 10+win seasons at ND.
He has 2 10 win seasons at LSU. When I have watched them play, they haven't looked like 10 win teams to me.
He is 8-5 in bowls. That is pretty good too.

If you judge him by the inflated narrative that always hangs around ND, then he never put them over the top to win a championship. His tenure at South Bend may be looked at as their last hoorah. The present CFB landscape doesn't favor them.

Yes, this is all relevant to his peers. Part of why he’s not doing so hot is because Kiffin, Heupel, Sark, and Drinkowitz are doing better. If it were just Smart and [Alabama’s coach] out performing him, LSU would see themselves as on track to achieve better things. You can’t be a top paid coach and the 7th best coach in your conference for long.

He’s actually battling for 7th with Venables. The SEC is tough.

Name 1 team he has beaten since being 2010 that he had less talent then. 22 bama is the only one. He only beats teams that he has more talent than.

Apparently the LSU administration thought he was a great coach>>>>>salary.
I personally think he's an average coach but an above average jerk.
I'm quite happy he's in Baton Rouge...😉

What’s your qualifications for being a great coach? He walked into the SEC and won the SECW in his first year. Sorry but that’s impressive. Kelly wins. Simple as that. You can only play who is on your schedule. And like I said, he wins at a pretty high clip.
