Cable news is lacking nowadays because there's basically no point/counterpoint. Shows don't have a liberal/conservative debate anymore. In the past we had shows like Crossfire, McLaughlin Group, Hannity & Combs, O'Reilly Factor and of course the original Point/Counterpoint on 60 mins with James J. Kilpatrick and Shana Alexander. All we have now are monologues preaching to their choir. Viewpoints are rarely challenged. I find that boring and not entertaining
By and large, news-consuming audiences want their priors confirmed.

When you look back at history, the era of Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite was actually an aberration. The earliest newspapers in the country, before national distribution, were openly partisan/biased rags we'd call tabloids today that catered to very specific audiences. When you got into the age of national newspaper distribution, then radio, then TV, everybody was drinking from the same hose. The media wasn't more trusted, or down the middle, in those days because of the goodness of their heart; it was good business. Everybody got their information from 3-4 TV channels, and you didn't want to piss too many people off.

Today with the internet, the media can again target very specific audiences and cater to their biases, which I think is what audiences actually want. They don't want to be bothered with information that goes against their already-held opinions.

O'Reilly Factor got the best ratings in cable news for decades. I'm sure that market is still out there

That's basically Tucker's show now, but with a somewhat different brand of conservative politics. O'Reilly was not some down the middle, calling balls and strikes guy. There is a very small market for that these days.

They really should just open the show with.

“Hi! Welcome to our program. For the next hour I’m going to tell you why white men are evil and ruining everything. I will have panelist on that agree with everything I say. We will also bring in the most uneducated and arrogant white male we could find. He is here to represent white evil and he will make a ridiculous statement that my panel and I will find woefully offensive. In our grand hero moment, we will correct him for his bigotry and congratulate ourselves.

But first, as always, 10 minutes of F*%!$ Trump!!!!!!”

That's pretty spot on. Meanwhile all the white cucks nod their head in agreement. Am I allowed to say that? If not, I apologize.

Tucker rarely has a liberal on his show. In fact Tucker has many segments where he has no guest. O'Reilly was most certainly a conservative voice but he had liberals on the show like Hillary, Obama, Schumer, Dennis Kucinich and many others who were less famous. You don't see those folks going on with Tucker or any conservative. Likewise conservatives don't go on MSNBC either

That's because the other side refuses to go on the network. However, you tend to find more conservatives going on neo-liberal news channels because we're littered with them.

Agree on the show guest now vs. then. Tucker just had Tulsi Gabbard host his show. I’m sure it’ll get passed over because she more moderate, but political career has been with the Democrats.

Those were few and far between. Tucker does occasionally have liberals on his show as well.

Tucker is probably the best at getting someone with an opposing point of view but that's not saying much
