I teach because, for me, it is a calling. Phrases like the one you quoted only serve to perpetuate the idea that teachers are failures who are in the job because they can't do anything else. The best advice I can give you, on this site particularly, is not to be too offended by those who attempt to criticize. Ironically, many attack educators without the ability to string together a proper sentence.

As Dan Akroyd said in Spies Like Us: "We mock what we don't understand."
