On March 21st, there will be a special Late Model race featuring many former winners of Cup and Grand National races at Bristol Motor Speedway. It will be of 50 laps in length with invited celebrities driving the first 15 laps and the NASCAR Legendary drivers doing the remaining 35 laps.

Drivers already confirmed are: David Pearson, Junior Johnson, Harry Gant, Jack Ingram, Darrell Waltrip, Sterling Marlin, Phil Parsons, Jimmy Spencer, Terry Labonte, David Greene, with invited drivers Richard Petty, Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, Cale Yarborough and Morgan Shepherd not yet confirmed. The speedway also hopes to involve Ernie Irvan and Bobby Allison in some capacity. The celebrities will be announced later.

Junior Johnson in attendance for the announcement said he was "looking forward to rooting on Waltrip", his former driver.

The race will follow the Nationwide race and a 100 lap Late Model event.

Just in case someone hasn't seen the thread on the main board, Lane Kiffin and Frank Beamer are supposedly going to be celebrity drivers, Coach Beamer claims his learning to drive in the Fancy Gap, Va area gives him the advantage. Fancy Gap is right on the NC border north of Mt. Airy (Mayberry) NC, which features curvy mountain roads.

I wonder how many serious NASCAR fans would buy tickets to see this race? Would they sell over 20,000?:dunno:
I'd like to see it televised.

pretty sure i heard ESPN picked it up.

I hope so, I'd really like to see this.

I'm sure they will at least show highlights on the Cup pre-race show or something like that.

I heard on PRN that they will broadcast the race so you can at least hear it on the radio.

DW pulled out citing Fox obligations. DW was my favorite Cup driver of all time but DW is telling a little white lie here. DW actually pulled out because the redhead was going to kick him out of the house if he ran. She's so paranoid he will get hurt in a car its sickening. That's why he didn't race more than he did in Trucks after he retired from Cup. She might be a nice lady but is ultra paranoid.

DW pulled out because Junior Johnson all but guaranteed he would put DW in the wall.
