In 2004, the volleyball team wanted to get some interest up from the students for the Florida match. At that time Florida hadn't lost an SEC match in nearly 10 years. So someone on the team (who might be a Knoxville radio personality now) and one of the other players came up with the idea for the team to pose in sports bras and spandex shorts and put the picture on a flier and distribute it to the frats on campus. The Athletic Department flipped out, a couple of academic departments were outraged that the players "objectified themselves" and the team had to write letters of apology.
But the head coach loved it and 1500 students showed up. It worked. Still lost the match to Florida, but they went down weeks later and ended UF's streak on their home court to win the SEC Championship. A week later, they returned to Gainesville and did it again, for the SEC Tournament title. Florida has been beatable ever since.
I might have helped with that photo shoot.
