Not good:

LeBron James' son, Bronny, was rushed to a hospital after suffering cardiac arrest during a basketball workout, TMZ Sports has learned.

A James family spokesperson tells TMZ Sports ... "Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information."

What’s crazy about Hamlin is that what happened to him was one in a million. I don’t want to assume anything but this sounds more like something genetic than what happened to Hamlin
It sounds more like what happened to Keyontae Johnson, except hopefully not as bad. And he's back playing.

Damar Hamlin came back

USC had a kid last year and he came back as well.
It may be unwise for any of them to play again. My sister was on the swim team many years ago -- doctor heard a heart murmur and suggested she give up competitive swimming.

Very sad, and I’m scared for his future. I always think of Reggie Lewis when these unfortunate medical situations happen.

A doctor told Reggie Lewis never to play basketball again because he had HCM and collapsed during a playoff game in 1993. He went for a 2nd opinion. That next doctor said the same. So did the 3rd, 4th, 5th, all the way to 8th. The 9th doctor gave him a less serious diagnosis and cleared him to play. Unfortunately, Reggiew Lewis suffered cardiac arrest and died at practice during the offseason. Tragic.

I know it’s awful to have to give up your dream right as you’re starting your career, but Bronny James is lucky to be financially set for life. Hopefully he will be able to continue playing, but I really hope he is cautious.

Similar stories take place all across this land almost everyday. Somewhere there is a kid on a court, a field, or a gym that hears from the medical folks that his/her playing days are over due to an injury, illness, or medical procedure that didn't go well. From all reports he's a good young man and hopefully recovers.

Way too early to answer but the big question: should he play again? Basketball was going to be this kid's life

ER doc here; not a cardiologist but fairly well schooled in cardiac emergencies. It depends on what happened. The Hamlin incident was a matter of freakish and unfortunate timing between the hit and the cycle of electrical conduction of his heart. Spontaneous collapses like Bronny can be from a few causes, both electrical (brugada syndrome, wolf-parkinson-white syndrome) as well as mechanical (hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy). A cardiology team will do a big workup to determine the cause, and it may be that he could have an ablation to destroy unwanted sources of conduction or an internal defibrillator placed as a life saving device.

This is a video of a soccer player collapsing and being revived by his defibrillator. Look for the guy in white at the top of the screen. You can watch the defibrillator kick in and he sits up like nothing happened.

I certainly hope they don't put a pacemaker in a teenager. I doubt they'd want him playing BB competitively with that

A defibrillator kicks in when needed, including if you collapse while sitting on the couch watching TV. It is truly life-saving technology, even though it brings its own baggage.
