I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on this question. Pearl isn't allowed to speak about it, bc/ of his attorney's advice, but Tony Jones has been ranting about UT telling him not to disclose info about the picture of the BBQ at Pearl's house.

Also, Pearl did meet with UT compliance, I beliieve, before he actually met with the NCAA and lied to them about the picture.

Is it possible that the UT compliance Dept. set them up to get fired? Or was the UT compliance dept. just that dumb?
Or are the former coaches just trying to pass the blame to someone else?? I'm not really sure what to believe.......

Either way, Pearl and his assistants still lied.

1. Why would you believe anything Bruce Pearl or his staff says?

2. Why would UT try and set up the most successful basketball coach in the last 30 years?

3. How did the compliance office make Bruce lie?

4. How did the compliance office knew they had a pic of Bruce and his house?

5.Why would you believe anything Bruce Pearl or his staff says?

I think it's beyond absurd to even pose this question. Tony Jones has been shady his entire time at Tennessee and is not someone who should be trusted. This is sour grapes BS in my opinion.

Whatever.

Jimmy the Gator was mad because Bruce owned Billy D at basketball. So he made Aaron Craft go to Bruce's house. Bruce knew it was an NCAA violation, but Jimmy the Gator is boss. So he had Craft and others go to his house. Then he got Craft hooked up with Jim Tressel and the Vest got him some free tats. Craft was sold. Then Jimmy the Gator paid Craft's parents to snitch to the NCAA, and Jimmy the Gator even gave them a photo for the proof. After that, Bruce was called by the NCAA. Jimmy the Gator then told to Bruce to lie and Jimmy the Gator would totally have his back and the NCAA would never figure out. When Bruce lied, Jimmy the Gator then told Bruce to call the Crafts, get them to lie, tell the coaches to lie, and all that. Then Jimmy the Gator fired Bruce after saying he would keep him, and hired some cancer survivor who has no shot to win us ball games. I mean, Cuonzo didn't even get a FOUR STAR. Jimmy the Gator is genius.

At that point it was just a minor violation. There was no reason to set him up. It was what happened next (the lying about being at Pearl's house) that was the major violation that led to all of this.

I do agree with the thought that Pearl and company is responsible. However if the compliance department knew this question about a BBQ was coming up from the AA. The department should have said whatever is asked be 100% truthful seeing as it is a minor violation anyhow.

Did the University sit in with the staff and make them lie to the NCAA?

I do not agree with Bruce and the staff and the fact that they lied to the NCAA... but your post makes me believe that you do not understand that "The University" was in control of the purse. You know the golden rule "He who hasthe gold, makes the rule"

I think the OP may be grasping at straws but there was an opportunity for the University to mis-guide the coaching staff. and who would have thought that UT would get off as light as they did, while the coaches all lost their jobs. IT DOES BRING A QUESTION

There's a reason Tony Jones is coaching high school basketball now.

Ok, never faulted the asst coaches for not knowing where the picture was taken. I probably would not recognize a friend's kitchen...never been in my boss' kitchen.

No way that Coach Pearl did not know his own kitchen! I mean come on, seriously? He could have stopped it all right there and it would not have been lies by the assistant. Just no recognition of picture location. No worries!

Except Coach Pearl had violated the exact same 2nd violation before, hence a pattern, hence HE freaked out, lied more, tried to cover-up and then got caught. The subsequent 2nd violations were just nails in the coffin!

Imo, whatever Pearl's penalty, Tressel should get 10x. Exponentially worse, also repeat offender...

Yeah, the compliance department had a serious responsibility to tell Pearl and his assistants to be truthful when meeting with the NCAA. Give me a break!

Pearl set Pearl up. He and the assistants were told right before their interviews, and were advised to be truthful, but only provide yes or no answers. Just not to answer anything more than the specific questions the NCAA asked. They all still had time to get together for a minute, and be consistent with their answers. That means they could have agreed to tell the truth. If they knew the AA had a photo, Pearl should have realized the AA knew who was in it and where the photo was taken, and simply said it looks like it was taken in BP's house. Secondary violation, just not self reported. Probably ends there with a slap on the wrist.

Yep, three months after Pearl came within a whisker of the Final Four, UT concocted an elaborate plan to run off the most successful coach in school history. This included someone at Tennessee anonymously sending a picture of Bruce Pearl and Aaron Craft to NCAA headquarters, and lawyers for the school advising them to lie. They also advised Pearl to call the Crafts and encourage them to lie, knowing that the Crafts wouldn't cooperate, which forced Pearl to then double back and request a second meeting with the NCAA. Then, when the NCAA sent a notice of allegations to Tennessee, it was such an elaborate setup that instead of firing Pearl right then, they publicly stood by him and allowed him to spend two more weeks recruiting at which point they knew he'd commit another violation.

Tony Jones is a jerk and scumbag. This guy will find ways to get himself into trouble down the road. Those of us that have actually spent time around him know the real Tony.
