Bruce Pearl To Virginia Tech

Exactly.

Its quite humorous how many people on here don't understand what a Show clause is. It does not mean that Bruce is Unhirable.

Nobody is arguing the technicality of the situation. BP can certainly be hired if the school wants to go in front of the NCAA every six months, and take on all penalties and bans associated with that head coach.

Why do you think he or Jim Tressel don't have jobs yet?

Btw, it's called a SHOW-CAUSE penalty. Not a show clause.

Pearl is actually being mentioned if we could somehow get an appeal from the NCAA for the show clause but what could we be expecting if we somehow hired him? The roster is young and really talented for the next few years so the players would be in place if he can run a decent offensive scheme

The NCAA will not be granting an appeal for their own punishment, forget that idea.

You have a better chance of catching Phil Fulmer at a weight watchers meeting than Bruce Pearl running a decent offensive scheme.

1) After it was ridiculed for 2 pages, you still spelled it wrong?

2) I don't think you understand the severity of the show cause. Has any institution ever "shown cause" and had the infractions lifted?

Ok, I know Tressel got one recently so he could coach at Liberty as an assistant so I didn't know if Pearl could somehow get one.

not really

Tressel, 59, is not permitted to have any direct involvement with the school's athletic department, one of the conditions of the five-year, show-cause sanction he was given by the NCAA following its investigation into the Ohio State mess.

Show clause would prevent that.

Seeing as how he still has a showcause in place in gonna say its not very likely.

people just dont understand what the show cause is.

You're right. Totally forgot about that.

To say nobody is arguing the technicality may not be 100% accurate. See the above posts. My post wasn't directed towards you. No point in getting bent out of shape. :)

And thanks for the spell check. typing at work on a message board while i'm supposed to be working can lead to spelling errors.

I read an article on Grantland that insinuated that Bowden is going to use Tressell for recruiting at Akron. Thought that sounded wrong.

Semantics. He can technically be hired, but no schools are going to. A show-cause is the coaching equivalent to being unhirable. Unless of course your school doesn't care about recruiting restrictions or post season play.

It still means though that unless VT can show proof to the NCAA that they need (possibly *absolutely* need) this guy, they're still subject to NCAA punishment if they do so (and most likely, the NCAA would give them sanctions in this case).

He's not unhirable, but programs aren't going to go get some one if it could - for example - risk them possibly being put on probation immediately

Besides the obvious everyone has mentioned. It is worth noting most coaches don't like replacing their friends. Bruce and Seth are close.
