Bruce Pearls Dream Job

Don't kid yourselves. He would jump ship for the first big job he got offered.

I believe some big bball schools already offered him in the first few years here and he turned them down

I do think he's happy here to a degree, but like if he got a big NBA offer he might leave

On vol calls last night he responded to my praise with saying that UT is his dream job.

I would literally soil myself at such an announcement. I'm talking a colon speed of full to empty in less than 3 second, w/ possible prolapse!

Last interview I saw, think it was on UT Sports, when they asked Coach Pearl about the hiring of Coach Dooley he said something to tune of Coach Dooley being like himself and dedicating his entire career to getting the opportunity to come and coach at a school like Tennessee. Said he loved it here and that this was confirmation that Coach Dooley had made the right decisions to be offered the job. This is total paraphrasing of course, but that is the gist of the interview and what he said.

He leveraged a Memphis "offer" for a raise here. Don't get too comfortable with him, because if an equal or greater job comes around and offers more money he'll be gone.

Bruce Pearl 2 years ago would have left us for a job like Villanova in a heartbeat.

He is for the first time really culturally feeling super comfortable in Knoxville. He has lots of friends, he is a king but he is not swarmed everywhere. I think he could stay here for a very long time.

I don't post here very often but imo I think bruce would be crazy to leave UT. I think he's good for UT and the SEC and I think UT is a great job for any coach.

I will tell you up front that I'm a bandwagoner. I never rooted for any UT team except the Lady Vols until I watched Pearl's castoffs hustle, press and play each game like it was their last. Since he has moved UT from not even being on the radar of big time players to being on the cusp of a perennial Top 10 program, how many jobs out there are better than the one he has? He seems to be one of those guys who thrives on doing more with less. The decision that he will have to make is similar to the one Roy Williams made, do I want to be known as the guy who continued someone else's legacy or do I want leave my own mark on the basketball world? I think (hope) Pearl chooses to stay at UT, I don't think coaching in the pros holds that much allure for him. He would have a heckuva time getting those guys to do the things he asks his teams to do (i.e. play hard, tough D).

On Vol calls the other night, Pearl stated that Indiana had talked to him and that WAS his dream job. That Tennessee has become his dream job, will stay as long as we let him. FWIW.

I hope he never leaves, but if he got an offer from the NBA and took it, I'd wish him well.

That won't ever happen until he takes us to a Final Four, and if he does that, he's taken this program farther than it has ever been before.

Boston College or Indiana University

He has already turned down Indiana the 1st time around. He is happy here. Why does everyone think that he would leave for a "Big Time" program. We are gonna be a big time program. We are ranked number 8 and will be a consistant top 15 program as long as he is here. We have the BEST facilities in college basketball. He has it made here. He is without the expectations that he would have at NC, DUKE, INDIANA, KENTUCKY to name a few. We are a football school and that allows him to just do his job. He is not going anywhere this is his dream job.

I'm sorry but people need to quit living in the past. Indiana is NOT a big time job anymore. It has been a revolving door of coaches trying to build on a legacy built by Bobby Knight. Maybe it wasn't Indiana...it was Knight? And no, I'm not a Knight apologist...I'm just saying that since he left...well, the results speak for themselves.

And while we're on the topic...Notre Dame isn't big time in football anymore. Just had to get that off my chest.

Indiana IS a big time job once they get off probation. Indiana is kind of like my second favorite team(even though I can't name one player). In other words, if UT's basketball program was abolished, I would be a Hoosier fan.
