Indiana is a big time job if you live in Indiana. Nobody else cares anymore. Duke, UNC, Kentucky...THOSE are big time jobs.

He has already turned down Indiana the 1st time around. He is happy here. Why does everyone think that he would leave for a "Big Time" program. We are gonna be a big time program. We are ranked number 8 and will be a consistant top 15 program as long as he is here. We have the BEST facilities in college basketball. He has it made here. He is without the expectations that he would have at NC, DUKE, INDIANA, KENTUCKY to name a few. We are a football school and that allows him to just do his job. He is not going anywhere this is his dream job.

You and I had the same chance he did of getting the IU job.

You can't say that we're a "bigger" job than Indiana in basketball because we're currently #8 and they've had some down years any more than you can say Cincinnati/Utah/TCU are bigger jobs than Tennessee/Notre Dame/Michigan in Football. It takes more than a few up or down years to qualify statements such as that.

That being said, I think Pearl really has reached a point where he is completely in love with all things UT and I do believe this is his dream job and he will be here a long time. I think the only way he leaves for another University is if he accomplishes everything he thinks is accomplishable here first(a couple final fours or a national championship etc..). An NBA offer might be a different story but I don't think that would happen for a while. Pearl is All Vol.

I never said we were a "bigger" job. We are a good job. Indiana is a good job...but going 1-17 in your conference last year doesn't bode well. Indiana has not been what they WERE since Knight left with the exception of the one year run under Mike Davis. And Notre Dame football has been sub par since Holtz left. Neither are ELITE anymore.

Have you ever been to Indiana? Just because they got hammered with violations and started all walk ons last year does not mean that they are gone forever.

Crean will have them challenging OSU and Purdue within a couple of years.

Don't kid yourselves. He would jump ship for the first big job he got offered.

His dream job was Indiana or I think Illinois and it came open and he did not pursue it after initial inquiries were made into his interest. I am pretty sure that he declined to even interview for it.

He unlike others we know - felt obligated to a school that gave him his big break and he had unfinished business at Tennessee. His current dream job is the University of Tennessee. In my opinion, we are very, very fortunate to have him.

On Vol calls the other night, Pearl stated that Indiana had talked to him and that WAS his dream job. That Tennessee has become his dream job, will stay as long as we let him. FWIW.

This is almost verbatum what he told me two days ago. I don't know if he would ever leave, but he certainly believes that UT is his dream job right now.

I dont see him leaving anytime soon...he has a great relationship with Pat and is considered a god around here for the most part...omit Hat. lol

But he would def use bigger schools to get raises especially IU and BC.

If there's one thing we've learned recently, there is no certainty in college sports anymore. That said, the best things we can offer Pearl is the chance to build his own legend in Men's Basketball here as opposed to being in another MBB's ghost's shadow; some of the best facilities around; and hopefully a fully energized and wildly supportive fan base.

I'm pretty sure it's not Illinois.

I think Bruce would leave if UNC, Kansas, Duke or BC came calling. BC and Kansas, money would solve it, but UNC and Duke, you can't compete with that.

This thread exists because Bruce is an incredible coach. Look at what he's been able to do at every school he's been the HC. I think he's fantastic and wish that he would stay forever. But I'm not naive to think that he will. He's only been here 5 years. And if he had the opportunity to go to a program like UNC, I think he would do it and I don't blame him. As for his "Dream Job", I think Indiana is it. I'm not sure they actually offered him the job a couple years ago. But look who took it. Tom Crean had been at Marquette (no shabby program) for almost 10 years, and had taken them to a Final 4. If Indiana offered Bruce I think he would consider it.
