Bryant Jr. Could End Football For UT's First Opponent In '15

Was speculating with a buddy of mine last night about why they don't have an NFL team down there.

Seems to make sense, right? Football crazy state full of UA and Aub fans.. Oh wait....

Prestige and footprint. Of course.

Bammer and Barner and the two biggest shows in the state. Why bring in competition from the NFL?

This seems to be the flip side of that same issue.

Where you can, you work to eliminate already existing competition within the state.

I think this is about pushing competition, on any level, out of the state.

Concisely, monopolize if you can and where you can.

Edit: I posted before reading - seems others have the same theory.

I live down here in Armpit now and this is all I have heard this week. I look outside the box on this due to the fact that the college needs updating on their football practice field and other needs for their program. they have many people protesting the possibility of losing the team so of course fund raising is now taking place and what-not, could this be a ploy to get something by creating a "Problem"

Just a different way of looking at it.

UT last played at Legion in '97. It was already a dump at that point. I mean, who wants to tailgate in the middle of the ghetto?

Too many big fish in that tiny pond.

Like a program that draws attendance from fans in Dallas and Atlanta has anything to fear from UAB... what pri**s.

I live down here and the talk has sounded like there isn't any motivation from the UAB administration side of things. There is a bunch of former players and alumni that are not happy with anybody involved be it the board or the administration at UAB. The fact that UAB has to go through Tuscaloosa to get anything improved will always make things difficult for the Blazers to ever get the ball really rolling when it comes to improving their program. I wouldn't say it is any one individual causing it rather a collection of people involved that could care less about what happens in the long run.

Warning: Cool story bro story coming!!

I am one of 8 guys that helped get UAB football up and going. Me and some other students back in 1987 got together and pitched the idea of having a football team at UAB. I was a track/cross country athlete down there at the time. We pitched the idea to the athletic department and had bumper stickers and tshirt made that said, "UAB Football: The hottest rumor in town." It took a few years, but they finally got a club level team. Of course I was already gone by that time. I hate to see their football program go.

If memory serves, UAB had Jimbo Fisher damn near locked up after Watson Brown was thrown out years back. Bryant Jr made it his mission to destroy that deal as well. He doesn't want UA to have anymore competition for instate money and recruits than absolutely necessary. He's a level 5 douche.

UAB hasn't had a football program in quite some time.

This is why I was SOOOOO embarrassed that the team carried Denarius Moore off the field on their shoulders after we had to go to overtime to beat UAB.

Anybody else remember that sad day??

I know that it was a win, but CRAP that said a lot about the fall of our program.

UAB will continue playing through the end of the 2016 season, regardless of the future. They would have to pay massive buyouts of future non-conference games and to get out of CUSA if they end the program before then. UT's game will not be affected.

But it's telling that UAB has no football contracts, games, coaches or future opponents for 2017 and beyond.
Wrong
