BTO’s Alabama Postgame Report

I don't understand the mentality that this loss doesn't matter. It would have been a durable quadrant 1 win against a potential SEC championship team. This loss absolutely matters. It was one of the most important games Tennessee could have won this year, both for seeding and for prestige, and they didn't win. Who Tennessee had or didn't have isn't relevant to the game's value as a win.

There was nothing to lose when you find out that 2 starters were out. That’s what people mean when it doesn’t matter. If you win, great. It boosts a good resume. If you lose, it doesn’t hurt you and is a Q1 loss. The committee doesn’t knock you down a seed for a Q1 road loss. Just get back to full strength and win the next road game against a Q1 team.

This was not one of those games that you watched the first few minutes and thought, dang we are outmanned and have no chance here without these starters. If that were the case I would agree with what you are saying. It was the opposite feeling. It felt like we were in control up till the last couple of minutes. Bottom line it was a winnable game. Bad circumstances come and go. How do you respond? We responded well until the last few minutes.

We probably lost that game when Vescovi fouled that guy’s elbow with his chin. When he had to sit with the 4th foul we were left with ZZZ trying to set the offense in a pressure packed environment which was a bit above his experience level. SV has been there done that a bunch of times and he tends to get us in the right play or can recognize the defense and adjust. ZZZ has shown aptitude and will likely be able to better drive the boat as he continues to gain more experience. JMO

Doesn’t matter how the game unfolded. Pre-game determination that a win is just gravy.

Should hopefully be a great learning experience for Z. Could well pay dividends down the road.
