I disagree. It is not out of bounds until it hits the ground out of bounds. If the player is out of bounds when it hits him, then is out of bounds on him.

when the ball hits a player who is standing out of bounds….it is then out of bounds and the person it touches who is standing out of bounds is who the ball is deemed out of bounds. The ball goes to the other team.

Maybe it’s understandable. There used to be a rule called 3-second violation. And double dribble. And traveling.

The 3 second rule is kind of like holding in football. You could call it a lot, but refs tend to only call it if it is blatantly obvious (sometimes not even then as evidenced by Zach Edey) and/or convenient.

I’m with you on this. The announcers even brought it up. You dont need to do a wholesale bench clearing but just filter more guys in to give them time to get into the flow of the game. That’s a Barnes thing. I remember the 2019 team (still my all time favorite) looked gassed in the NCAA.
They scored like 56 points in the 2nd half of the S16 game. They weren’t gassed.

You’re the one disagreeing with me about out of bounds and one of the ones he was referring to. lol
I have played basketball all my life from pee wees to college and I do disagree with you on the out of bounds call. And I have been involved in many of those calls. But I give up. We just agree to disagree.

Not if the ball hasn't hit the floor yet and the first person wasn't out of bounds himself
The rule book says you're right.
Section 2. Ball Caused to Go Out of Bounds
Art. 1. The last player to touch the ball before the ball goes out of bounds
caused the ball to go out of bounds,
provided that the ball is out of bounds
because it touched something other than a player who is out of bounds.
Art. 2. When the ball is out of bounds because of touching or being touched
by a player who is on or outside a boundary, such player has caused the ball to
go out of bounds.

Just read the rule book. It’s that easy. I even gave you the exact location in the book. You can disagree all you want but it’s written in plain easy to read English. See below.
You probably also believe a ball is kicked whenever it touches a defender below the knee.

I think he must have not seen the play and not understand what happened. There’s no other explanation. The rule is clear and it’s one that everyone who’s ever played any organized sport will find familiar. Not sure why he just keeps arguing instead of finding a replay though.
