The UVA game for instance, he was 6-12 from 3, but 4-11 from 2.I'm very surprised by that stat and definitely don't expect it to continue. While being primarily a 3-point specialist, I believe he can score in bunches from all three levels. I guess we shall see.
Rim and mid range are 2 different things tho. And he has shown he can score that 12-15The UVA game for instance, he was 6-12 from 3, but 4-11 from 2.
I'm open to him potentially being someone who can eventually score in the midrange somewhat effectively. However, I will be shocked if he ever becomes someone who is consistently scoring at the rim. I just haven't seen that in his game at this level, yet.
Many of those missed 2 point shots were when he would drive to the basket and be surrounded, by their bigs and he would just throw th ball up. It's difficult to call those shots, but you have to callout something. I am surprised about some of KK turn overs in the paint. Seems like he is forcing the passes to the post when there is a very small chance the pass can be completed. The UVA game for instance, he was 6-12 from 3, but 4-11 from 2.

Isn't that what I'm saying? I admitted that he's someone I can see becoming a consistent threat from the mid-range, but I don't believe he's a guy you'll see finishing at the rim consistently.Rim and mid range are 2 different things tho. And he has shown he can score that 12-15
I'm thinking of several shots Lanier would take as contested turnaround mid-range opportunities or contested pull-ups, but in either case, they weren't good looks and definitely count as shots. But, we've seen him hit those in other games, too, which is why I'm willing to concede he is a threat in the mid-range.Many of those missed 2 point shots were when he would drive to the basket and be surrounded, by their bigs and he would just throw th ball up. Honestly wasn’t trying to pick, but I didn’t read it like that. That was in response to a claim that someone who believes "he can score in bunches from all three levels".
Well, he didn't last night, which was the game I was specifically referencing. And as I noted earlier, he has the lowest 2-pt shooting percentage on the team thru 5 games. So, despite displaying an ability to hit some of those shots, I would contest the idea that he's done it efficiently thus far. And statistically, that bears out.Honestly wasn’t trying to pick, but I didn’t read it like that. He had at least 2mid range jumpers last night. Wouldn’t know that usually but watched it rt b4 tonightsWell, he didn't last night, which was the game I was specifically referencing. Yeah, but was only 4-11 from 2, which was my point regarding his efficiency. In no way am I saying he can't hit from the mid-range. I'm saying he's yet to show much consistency and efficiency inside the arc. His shooting percentage bears that out.He had at least 2mid range jumpers last night. I tend to agree with you although I’m thinking it’s a bit closer. I think Igor helps replace Aidoo’s offensive skills and Felix is the better defender / rebounder IMO. Many on VN appear to suffer from “girlfriend who broke up with them”syndrome concerning the players who left focusing only on their shortcomings and minimizing their strengths. JMOI could elaborate about why I feel this way but if you know anything about basketball and watch the games we got the short end of the stick when we lost aidoo and picked up okpara and it’s not even close. Btw I wasn’t a huge aidoo fan.
I wish Okpara were more consistent in the paint offensively, but I also don't believe Aidoo was a hands-down better all-around player. He's a much better defender and has shown flashes of ability to score in the paint. So like you, I agree that the net difference is much closer.I tend to agree with you although I’m thinking it’s a bit closer. I think having a good but not great midrange game as a big can actually be detrimental to a team due to the inefficiencies of midrange shots. Aidoo is definitely a better offensive player, but him loving the midrange and not being efficient enough to support the midrange shots he was taking wasted a lot of possessions last year. This year where Milicic, Lanier, Gainey, and probably Zeigler would have been better options would have made Aidoo’s game more difficult to implement. Aidoo has a better game for a team with just a few options.I wish Okpara were more consistent in the paint offensively, but I also don't believe Aidoo was a hands-down better all-around player. I wasn’t comparing Aidoo to Igor. So what you’re saying is it takes two to replace Aidoo?I tend to agree with you although I’m thinking it’s a bit closer. Agreed...my hope is that the flashes we have seen translate into him adjusting his shot selection going forward as teams really try to crowd him on the 3-pt line and he gets better at getting a spot for a clean look at a pull up jumper.Well, he didn't last night, which was the game I was specifically referencing. Aidoo was All SEC for a reason so your point is well taken and I wish he had stayed. Having said that, there is a real possibility we are an all-around better team with the combo of Okpara and a hopefully healthy Estrella because of their physicality which may well mitigate our primary achilles heel last year - opposing teams with a physical center. Pair this with Igor and Phillips and you likely have a frontline built for both ends of the floor.I could elaborate about why I feel this way but if you know anything about basketball and watch the games we got the short end of the stick when we lost aidoo and picked up okpara and it’s not even close.
