BTO’s Georgia Southern Postgame Report

I think Barnes really likes the kid. He will do his best to bring out the defense. On another note, he sounds like a great, respectful kid. Dilione’s post game interview was very good last night.
I like him a lot, as well. I think he has a ton of potential and does a lot of things many of our guards cannot do.

I still think part of Santi's 3 point stroke issues are from

1. missing almost 2 weeks of practice
2. new role as the main defender on the other team's best perimeter scorer, DK isn't good enough to do it JJJ is playing the 4 last season we saw Mashack or JJJ usually draw this assignment which gave Santi more energy on offense
I thinks he was guarding the other teams best perimeter player last year as well. Shack would tag in.
ZZ is killing us with turnovers and missed bunnies. He struggles mightily on simple BLOB passes as well. This is why you typically have a 3 or 4 inbounding the ball.

The sad - DJ Waldo Jefferson
This year: 1 game (TN Tech), 3 points (1/1 3s), 2 Rs, 1 PF, 1 TO
What’s this kids story? Was he a highly rated recruit or a developmental kid needing some time to grow. Or is he just in the doghouse or potential redshirt? I noticed his body language and he looks miserable. I feel bad for the kid…

BTO's point #4 regarding a somewhat soft beginning to SEC play means the back half of SEC play will be a bit tougher. These boards are gonna lose it if TN loses 3of 5 games or so during that stretch. The 'Fire Barnes' crowd will be out in force
It always seems like the last 3 weeks are loaded with the strongest teams for the year. I haven’t looked but I bet a Krystal that of the last 6 games, 4 will be on the road and Kentucky, Bama, Auburn, A&M, and Arky will be in the mix.

Really? That's surprising. Maybe it was motivation. Maybe even though it wasn't great it was improvement. I'm just surprised that he's not any better. It's really in the number of low percentage risks he takes that leave his teammates out to dry having to help on his man.
Speaking of motivation, I noticed a time or two that when Freddie was in a sound defensive stance or in the correct help position, the coaching staff was really hyping him up. Noticeably…. Maybe they do that for everyone but it caught my eye for sure

I watched him closely and thought he looked somewhat improved defensively. He looked very competent switching on out of bounds defense under the other team’s basket. He also was more selective with his offensive choices, playing within the flow of the team. I was encouraged for him. One thing I noticed that made me wonder was how he would reach out and place one hand on the guy he was defending when the guy didn’t have the ball - is that legal? JMO TIFWIW AARP

Yeah, I was discussing the hand checks and arm bar with someone at the game. I’m not sure what the rule book says now, or how they even interpret that these days? Maybe someone can answer that.

I was close! Last 6 games are Mizzou, A&M, Auburn, Bama, USC, and Wildkittens. Every year we end with tough games but at least A&M, Auburn and UK games are at home…

I’d like to know. I think that Barnes will help DJ find a good landing spot if Jefferson wants help finding another school. There are several former assistants with programs that could use his talent.

Finals are wrapping up right now. If he doesn’t transfer out within the next couple of weeks, then maybe there’s hope that he’ll work his way into the rotation in the next year or 2.

Prior to the last 2 years our SEC schedule was front loaded. It varies and is cyclical. In the end, we play who we play when we play. If we’re good enough, the timing really doesn’t matter.

There’s more to this story than the common Joe knows.

Basilio of course is being a **** stirrer. He’s said that Barnes and DJ have issues. And TB also says that that is CRB’s pattern. There certainly are several players that seemed to have been needed, but transferred out. UT faces one of them Saturday. One of them is now in a horrible situation at UL.

Ticket has been successful playing for a former UT assistant coach. One Walker did pretty well as a Cornhusker. I’ve lost track of the younger Walker.

Seems to me that some guys could have helped the program, but had issues not worth working through. Others were recruited over or didn’t develop as was hoped.

Maybe my brain ain't working today (happens occasionally, about every 26 hours), but I can't follow what seem to be several worthwhile points you made in #2.
Would you mind editing and adding punctuation to make it easier to understand? Thanks!

I have to admit, when looking at DJ, I wonder what he would do if given the chance. Guys like DJ Burns seem to make sense. You can’t weigh 300 pounds and play basketball up to your potential.

Apparently he’s in pretty good shape now. At least relative to the last few years.
