Not sure why there is any controversy, but Tobia WAS the best NBA prospect this team has had in some time. Yes, Grant was a better college player. In Grants 3rd year out of HS he was SEC player of the year. In Tobias's 3rd year out of HS he averaged 17pts, 8 rebounds and 2 assists roughly for the Orlando Magic.

And Knecht is a fantastic talent. He also rarely (but occasionally) looks like the worst ball handler on the team when he tries to dribble through double coverage. He got the ball stripped several times in Maui and honestly looked bad with the ball in the first half of the first half of the UNC game. Luckily when he is on he is an SEC player of the year type talent. I think someone else here pointed out the he often dribbles too "high", which leasds to strips.

By draft position, Keon was a better prospect than Grant, but he was a worse college player and is on track to have a worse NBA career. No shade on Keon, but I could see either one of those trajectories for Dalton and we’ll only learn which in time.
I think it’s extremely hard to compare a one-year player to a three-year player.

First of all he said prospect, not how good they are when the second contract comes around. Kudos to Grant, he did everything the right way and earned that contract and was also probably a better/more valuable college player. But entering the draft, DK is a better prospect than Grant was in 2019.
Guess we’ll see where he gets drafted after the season unless one of you guys are an NBA scout and have some inside info. I hope he’s a lottery pick as that means he had a fantastic season!

Wasn’t he also SEC POY his second season out of HS?

No, close but no cigar, hell no. Yes, I know it's in blue font
Lofton was the player that got me into basketball as a kid. I was 11 years old his senior year, so I guess that’s why I still kind of see him as a mythical figure in our program.
Allan Houston is the only one close since the 90's, imo
Houston is better imo. At least had a better pro career to this point.

Yeah, Houston just played on some horrible UT teams.

Plus, I understand the love for Lofton he deserved it

He is as bad an off-ball defender we’ve seen get major minutes in the Barnes era.

If you pay attention, he ball watches a lot. There will be rebounds he should get, but doesn’t cause he just seems to lack the instincts or defensive focus. Loose balls, stuff like that.

Here is the good news. He is very athletic. So I think he is capable of being a better defender.

The question is how long will it take.
He is bad on that end of the floor, but I think much of the effort he expends on the offensive end of the floor restricts his ability to defend at a high level even if he wanted to be great on that end.

That's what makes a guy like Terrence Shannon so good is that he is conditioned and able to give max effort on both ends and is also talented at both ends.

Knecht just looks exhausted out there most nights. I think it's fair to wonder how much conditioning he did at his previous stops because he looks way behind in that aspect compared to someone like Santi and JJJ.

Those are the kinds of habits he got away with at Northern Colorado because the competition wasn't as good and he made up for mistakes with skill and athleticism. He is going to learn that those lazy tendencies won't cut it at this level.
