BTO’s Tarleton State Postgame Report

Tripuka was a superstar/all-America at Notre Dame and played in the NBA for probably a decade. Kelly was drafted by my Pistons and had some good seasons, but after they traded him, the Bad Boys began.

Edit: traded him for AD, Adrian Dantley
I just posted prior to reading your comment. I can’t recall how long Tripuka played for Detroit but think he had “knee issues.”

I remember watching AD play for the Jazz. There was a kid in my class who loved the Jazz and all he talked about was Dantley. Memories- dang I’m old.

He guarded Bernard King for a few minutes in the 1984 playoffs. It didn't go well for him

Was that the same playoff game where King and Isiah both scored over 40 in just a great scoring duel ?

Edit: my bad, King had 44 and the win. Isiah just scored 35, but had 16 points in the final 94 seconds to force OT. 16 points in 94 seconds is just mind blowing and you all wonder why Isiah is my all time favorite player

Totally understand Isiah being your favorite player. He could do it all, plus he was an ultra gamer. In that series, it's unfortunate that his great play was an afterthought to King's takeover of the series. One of the most phenomenal playoff performances

Yes, it was. Isiah learned the hard way how to win in the playoffs. Knicks that year, then 3 years losing to the Celtics, another year losing to the Lakers, then, at last, back to back NBA championships

FWIW, Ole Miss just beat Southern Mississippi by 17. Southern Mississippi is another team that is worse than tarlton st. Read into that whatever you will (hopefully nothing)

What it clearly means is that Ole Miss is firing on all cylinders and we’re going to be EMBARRASSED by them when they come to Knoxville. They just play such confident basketball and we look like absolute dog **** right now.

I’m gonna expect something like Vols -7 against Ole Miss.
I'll bet closer to -9 or -10. Ole Miss record is good at 12-0, but the content of it is rather unimpressive.

Alabama St by 10
Eastern Washington by 11
Detroit Mercy by 1
Sam Houston by 3
Temple by 1
Mt Saint Mary's by 9
UCF by 2
Cal by 10

I don’t think Ole Miss will be an easy game, but some of our “fans” have such a weird obsession with how “good” they think Ole Miss is. Guarantee if we were 12-0 with those results we’d have the same people upset that Barnes can’t beat Q4 opponents by more than single digits.

Memphis is a good win no doubt, but it’s their only good win. NC State they played at home.

Will be an interesting game regardless, but we’re the better team we just have to actually play to our potential.

Barnes is a micromanager... He is getting in Knechts head... Let him play... Seen Barnes year after year have kids gunshy about taking shots and worry more about shots than letting them play... His defense approach is unparalleled but he needs to let em play more free in offense... He's been better this year but he has an ego ordeal since Durant

Yeah, and I think Toby Knight was on that team too
Bill Hanzlik as well. I went to both those games (Eastern Kentucky and Notre Dame). It was a lot of fun. We got down 16-6 right off the bat against EKU then blew them out after that. Was our first NCAAT win ever so it was a big deal for us back then. We loved DeVoe then. Three wins over UK and first NCAAT win in his first year. And only 37 years old.

I'm not sure, but I think that was the last year of a 32 team field

Congrats...of all things CRB has been accused of on this board (e.g., "he's just collecting paychecks until retirement") this may be the most factually false and completely absurd of them all

LMAO

This is absurd. Barnes has given Knecht a green light since day 1 and multiple times has told him he needs to be aggressive in seeking his shot early in the year. Barnes is the furthest thing from Knecht’s problem. He’s been sick, rolled an ankle and since Maui the scout has been out on him and he’s trying to adjust while dealing with everything else mentioned.

Barnes wants them to shoot. False narrative

Barnes did take Knecht out for his overaggression against NC State, which was the right call. Knecht's offense is more improvisational, which is often a benefit, but creates a court balance issue if he's not scoring. NC State scored several breakaway buckets after his misses. It's good to have that improvisational offense a lot of the time but he'll need to be able to play in the offense when the defense keys in on it.

i think he got taken out for turnovers. Not misses.

He had only one turnover, though, so that would have been incredibly harsh. Misses weren't the problem, the lack of court balance was. When NC State rebounded those misses there was nobody back to counter the break.
