Yeah, a team with a talented big man is something we haven't really run up against, yet. That would be interesting to see how our limited frontcourt depth would be tested.I don’t disagree. Baylor may be one of the most talented teams in the country. They haven’t put it together yet. We made them very uncomfortable, and that was encouraging. Illinois just looked good against Alabama and Arkansas (known commodities to us) and I think they’re a step up in maturity and team development. I think we’re very good. I think we might be great eventually. I haven’t seen what a talented big or a great defensive team does to our game. I’m waiting for some more data before I start escorting us into the championship game. You’re right that we will/should get credit for Baylor and Louisville as meaningful wins. I hope they’re a part of many more.
Louisville is currently the #21 defensive team according to KenPom, and marks the best defense we've faced. Illinois is right behind at #23. The Illini are a significantly better offensive team, however.
Like you, I'm still a bit hesitant. The cynic in me still finds it hard to believe we can be better after losing the best individual player we've had in 20 years. Kind of feels like the '98 football team in that sense. The toughest SEC, perhaps ever, will certainly prepare this team.
