BTO’s Vanderbilt Postgame Report

I think the box score is pretty definitive ... he wants to play 11 ... I expect 11 every game unless it is sickness or injury related ... that's the only reason I hedged down to 9.
Last 3 game 11 -12 -11.
I’m willing to bet you we don’t go 11 deep in SECT or NCAAT assuming the game is competitive…again, can you make me other Top 20 teams going 11 deep every game?

No bet :^)))))))))) I agree with you! As long as the game is close 7 or 8. AND ... I intended for the 11 to apply ONLY to the next 8 games. Then I think he will be working toward better cohesion through playing less people.

Agree. He has improved since his freshman season, but I think it is fair to question if he has really improved that much, or just gotten more playing time by default, and thus put more production on the floor amidst more poor play, as well.

He has moments where it looks like the light comes on for him, but them he follows it up with several bad games. There just isn't anyone to push him really.

The most naturally talented post on the team is a freshman out of his depth, it seems, and has a questionable drive to push himself. Fulk is a shell of his former self, and Uros has his obvious limitations. If ON is what Barnes and the media preseason reports want us to believe he is, there is really nothing on this team standing in his way from being the best post player, yet he doesn't really stand out.

I have a hard time seeing Nkamhoua average 15 mpg for Auburn, UK, Bama, LSU, and most of the rest of the top-half teams in the SEC. He's an average, at best, SEC post player.
Unfortunately, I think LSU will eat his lunch Saturday. He doesn’t have the drive that most post players in the SEC have. People point to his rebounding quite often, but his rebounding is adequate per minutes played at best. I’m not dogging him, but after 2&1/2 years, he’s just not SEC average talent. I think Eason will eat him alive.

It’s getting close to time to put up or shut, hopefully we trim down sooner.

9 is fine, 11 not so much…how many Top 20 teams are currently playing a 11 man rotation?
In this Covid era, I could see 9 being the norm, but beyond that messes with rhythm and cohesion, especially with the fact Fulky is limited with the virus. Shoot for 8-9 and you have the rest should circumstances dictate. The 11 deal is too much, in my opinion.

The rebounding is adequate, but streaky to say the least, speaking to the bouts of questionable effort. He could be much more consistent in that area if he brought sustained effort all the time. Rebounding is a "talent", but it is certainly one rooted in determination and want-to. Rebounding and defense travel even when your offensive game is struggling if you are determined. It just takes that kind of mindset.

I said surprisingly unathletic not athletic. He is not explosive and doesn't jump well. It could just be him being timid because he should still in high school. I think he has tons of potential but he is a ways from reaching. So far I see a kid with skills and good size for a college post player but nothing about his game so far stands out.

And I played 3 different sports while growing up and could have played lower level college basketball and high level college tennis....possibly pro but that's just speculation based on the level I played at in high school before I screwed up and got expelled. Even if I hadn't played organized sports I would still be able to recognize elite athleticism....and unless you are a Grant Williams or Draymond Green type then you need to be a pretty elite athlete and/or be a consistent 3pt threat to play in the current NBA at Hatfield's size. He could become that but will have to put in a lot of work to get there.

Like no athlete that is liked by the fans can develop a pot smoking habit? You aren't very intelligent are you.
Out of some of the ridiculous things said on this forum this has to be up there. The guy has had Covid twice, got his face broken last year, thumb broken this off season along with the rest of his injuries he’s dealt with while here. All the while constantly doing stuff to give back to the community and then when he has a lack of production you suggest him having a drug problem as the issue? Pure trash.

Then she told me I’m not very intelligent. I just had to laugh.

We only played 10 last night, told you he wasn’t gonna keep playing 11.
I was just about to mention this, Bailey got zero minutes and I think that trend should continue. Do you like having Masmack play for 7 minutes or do you think those minutes should go to Powell unless foul trouble?

I think Mashack only played last night due to foul trouble on James in the first half, that’s where his minutes came from, didn’t play at all in the 2nd half…and that’s a fine role for him 10th man and plays depending on foul trouble or injury, some nights won’t play at all. I like rolling with the 9 at this point, some nights that will be more minutes for Powell, some night it will be more minutes for posts.

Sample size is too small ... let's see what we get in the next couple of games ... before you do the Rocky dance. :^))))))
I will grant that VB has struggled.

The more interesting question is ... what happens when you yell at the coach????
