Buffalo vs. #6 Georgia Game Thread (SEC Network)

That's garbage. You commit to a suspension or you don't. It's time for the media to point this out and start running Richt's name through the mud he does this. Unacceptable.

He may not be able to do it. I just dont know why he wouldnt announce it for the first game.

He hasn't done this yet...

But it's somewhat besides the point to, this is likely a case where the school suspended the players for X games by rule, but at the same time - by the school's own rule - it's up to the head coach's discretion as to whether he wants to publicly announce the suspension or not. (not siding with him)

He has the ability to choose when and/or whether to announce it to the public by school rules.

...and though im not a fan of the "will they/won't they" methodology, it does make some sense with Missouri being the 2nd week opponent

ESPN has said that both weren't dressed for this game

ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia All-America safety Bacarri Rambo and linebacker Alec Ogletree are not dressed for the sixth-ranked Bulldogs' game against Buffalo on Saturday at Sanford Stadium.

Coach Mark Richt dodged questions throughout the preseason as to whether the two defensive starters would be available after reports during spring practice that they failed drug tests and would face suspensions.

But the Bulldogs will indeed play their first game without six expected starters, including the two defensive standouts.

Rambo led the SEC and finished second nationally with eight interceptions in 2011. Ogletree missed half the season with a broken foot but led the Bulldogs in tackles in each of the last five games.

Georgia is also without starting cornerback Sanders Commings and outside linebacker Chase Vasser, both of whom will serve two-game suspensions following offseason arrests.

Senior receiver Marlon Brown is also unavailable for the Bulldogs with what a UGA spokesman said is a hamstring strain.

UGA announced on Friday that starting cornerback Malcolm Mitchell will miss the opener with a sprained ankle.

UGA will handle Buffalo. Dogs don't look all that motivated. No surprise; it's Week 1. And it's Buffalo.

I don't put a lot of stock in what I see in Week 1, especially against a non-SEC opponent. Whether it's a blowout or a close game, it's best to wait for the first SEC game to get a good measure of a teams' strengths and weaknesses.

Same goes for UT. I'll watch the GaSt game, but I won't even think about forming an opinion on just how good the Vols might be until the Gators come to Knoxville.

That being said, I think we would have beaten UGA yesterday, or today. Whether we can do it in late September remains to be seen.

Go Vols.

This is true. Georgia is looking ahead.

You're not classy if you don't cheer for a rival team? Okay...

Classy or not, I never cheer for a conference rival. In my opinion, my allegiance is to one team only, Tennessee. If UGA or UF or Bama look bad on television against a non-conference or lesser SEC team, that's all the better for my team in terms of ranking, standings, and recruiting.

Go Big Orange, and NO other SEC rival!

Except for when you need the teams on your schedule to be good. The mystique of the SEC is not based on UGA and UF losing to the likes of Buffalo and Bowling Green. Best scenario for UT is every team on the schedule is undefeated until we play them.

All that said, very unlikely I'll ever pull for a rival, and a good chance I'll enjoy watching them lose to a lesser opponent.

I contend that the more embarrassing our rivals lose to lesser opponents, the tougher it is for them on the recruiting trail and the better for Tennessee. It all starts with getting the best available players, then beating everyone on your schedule year in, year out.

It's unknown.

Everyone and the media knows they should most likely be suspended for anywhere from 2-4 weeks (UGA rules per drug stuff),

but at the same time - because of such - Richt's just played it close to the vest (by school rule it's his choice to actually publicly announce the suspensions or not), opting more for the "keep teams guessing will they/won't they play this week" approach

that is not what "should" happen. the school policy is 1 game for their 1st failed drug test (it's actually a %, but that usually equals 1 game) and alec and rambo both have failed just 1 test and both should get just 1 game suspensions. it would make zero sense for cmr to publicly say anything about rambo's or alec's status. hopefully both are on the field for the missouri game.

That wasn't a moral "should" in the post; it was a "should" in the usage of "what's going to probably happen"

Outside of message board rumors, I haven't seen any media source - including those actually in GA - say likely only one game / less than 2 to even 4 for these two players.

(I do have to presume though there's more than just one failed drug test with these guys, since they weren't simply lumped into the same 1-game rumor category with Branden Smith all summer)

(However, I'm also one who understands exactly why the coach is doing such [not announcing the suspensions and dodging questions regarding those two])
