Bush vs Iran

Given the amount of time Bush has in office, I would think this should be a decision left to the next president.

I would only disagree if there were sufficient evidence of the need for immediate action (but..we know how difficult 'sufficient' evidence is after the last go around).

I would say you are correct and highly doubt he'll launch an attack on Iran in his final months.

You would have to take into account the people of Iran and not just the leaders. The young people over there are not going to be happy if we interfere in their countries affairs again. This would have the potiential to be a bigger screwup than Iraq.

I don't think we will have to worry about taking such action, Israel will act on their own if they need to. I think you could see Israel launch an attack before the end of Bush's term.

that would pretty much take care of Iran

Thats the prevailing thought. But I would wonder how Hamas and the rest of the Shi'ite world would react. We aren't talking about Lebanon or the Palistianians, Iran would put those guys into play immediately since they have an image to protect.

With the US being in the vicinity I would think that would be reason enough for them to show restraint.

Think again.

You think Iran would try and strike back at Israel. It would most likely be an air strike and they would have to fly over our troops and equipment to get there. That would be very dangerous for them and us wouldn't it?

Its a matter of pride. And they would have no problem launching missiles over us (or at us) its not an unprecedented move.

I think Iran has the nads to pull some crazy stuff if they want to. As far as we go, the whole lets try to talk it out garbage is for the birds. what do you think the older generations if most of them were around would think about how the country is today? they'd be disgusted.

in the world wars and before, we didn't take crap. we kicked arse and took names. we did not try to play patty cake, and be friends w/ people who want us to be destroyed

Time seems to alter the facts?

Our older generations didnt want to go to war and wanted to be isolationist. We are extremely more aggresive now than a generation ago.

So do you think Israel will strike Iran's nuclear facilities? Given their track record I see it as a strong possibility.

I give it a 70/30% split that it will happen. They don't want Iran to have that power and they aren't going to like having a nuclear arms race between Sunni and Shia nations going on all around them.

However we may tell them not to? Whether they listen to us or not gives it a 30% chance of not doing it.

Another thought. If Iran wanted to retaliate for a strike from us, they would probably hit the gulf and Saudi oil production
