If you haven't seen what happened last night..
Baseball Video Highlights & Clips | MLB.com: Multimedia

Buster Olney is saying on twitter that baseball needs to ban catchers from blocking homeplate. As it is with all the other bases, illegal to block. He is saying that the risk/reward is not worth it for one run alone.

Apparently Posey's agent is going to call MLB and talk about a rule change.

I think that it would be hard to ban it completely. You can see there that it was a big run for the Marlins.

I say don't get in the way if you don't want to get ran over. For those of us that played a lil baseball, we remember how it was...

What say you?

If they ban that, then go ahead and put players in skirts. It was a clean play.

I respect the hell out of Posey. He done what catchers are supposed to do. As did the guy in teal or whatever the hell color the Marlins are.

On the same token I've lost a lot of respect for Buster Olney. He knows better than that.

CSN Bay Area is reporting that Buster broke his leg and tore ligaments in his ankle in his collision.

Out for the year.

Posey's agent should be more concerned with Posey's lack of catching ability on that play.

I think it would be ridiculous to ban it. However, I wouldn't be surprised if agents and owners wanted to take steps to protect their investments.

here's a step . . . Don't throw a bunch of money at catchers.

If you don't want to get hit I have two simple solutions: 1) don't block the plate, 2) don't be a catcher.

It was a clean play, the reason Posey got hurt is because he was down on his knees when the collision took place. Catchers are taught how to position their bodies for plays at the plate and that is NOT the right way to do it.

Unfortunate accident playing the game. Could have been a much more malicious hit. Cousins lowered his arms and turned his body.

I really don't see anything wrong with that play at all. It's part of the game.

I've not seen the play develop before the collision. Was it a low throw he had to trap? Why in the world was he in that position to block the plate? You are taught from Little League the right way to do it.

Good grief, Olney, what next? Ban stealing bases because sometimes someone gets hurt by the slide into 2nd?

If it was Kelly Shoppach or Ronnie Paulino that got hurt blocking the plate would the "outrage" from the press be anything like it is now?

not even a little bit. This is my problem with it. If he gets trampled but simply makes the play and doesn't get hurt, it is the top play of the night on sportscenter.

"I said to him, 'I don't want you planting yourself in front of the plate waiting to get creamed. You're an athletic catcher -- be athletic,' " Beane told ESPN.

Beane to Suzuki. Common sense, really.

If I were a GM with a great young hitter who also happens to be a catcher, I would either A) get him the hell out from behind the plate, or B) tell him that in no circumstances do I want him blocking the plate unless it's a game-winning run in a pennant race. This is what happens to catchers. Cousins did what he was supposed to do. If you don't want to get hit, get the hell out of the basepath.

What a piece of **** Brian Sabean is. Way the F out of line.

This is where we find out whether the Marlins' GM has any stones at all. He needs to call Sabean out for that BS. Posey made a bad play and he got hammered for it. It's Cousins's job to score the game-winning run and he did. Life's hard sometimes.

Jon Sciambi retweeted this today and I liked it.

Sabean should be ashamed of his Cousins comments. Not the Marlins fault they hurt the only everyday player he's found in 14 years as GM.about 6 hours agovia Echofon
