Butch and staff raises

I rarely post on the board, but I read it several times a day--boring job, I know. Anyway, I am a huge CBJ fan and think he and his staff are doing a great job. I couldn't be happier with the national attention we are getting on the recruiting front, and, as our most hated brethren south of us has shown, recruiting has a lot to do with winning ball games.

I have some friends who went to the NCAA Tourney this year and CBJ was at the UT-UM game. My friends got to meet CBJ, but they said he spent most of his time in a suite with a bunch of Michigan fans. Also, I read something from an interview with CDT that he knew CBJ got back to Michigan as often as he could, but he (CDT) did not go back that often.

That being said, does anyone else have the hidden fear of CBJ's success coupled with another lack-luster performance from Brady Hoke equal CBJ looking at Michigan? Or Michigan looking at him?

Butch would have to have one amazing season to pick up the kind of hype it would take to land the Mich job. Butch said UT was a dream job, and I hope he follows through with what he has started in Knoxville.

I should've been more clear. I wasn't necessarily referring to after this season in particular, but more of a general inquiry.

I remember CBJ declaring UT a dream job (I think it's the greatest place on earth) so I, too, hope that he holds on to that belief. I remember reading something in which he said when he was at UC and they came to Knoxville he had a premonition that he would be the coach at UT so maybe he wouldn't leave even if UM came calling.

Go Vols!!

I thought all the assistant coaches & CBJ got $25,000 raises this year? I'm pretty Butch is up $3.2million - mid pack SEC.

I've posted about this in the past too. I think Michigan could certainly tempt him if the money was right, but I think him going home more often than Tyndall has more to do with his personal and family situations. Jones' mom still lives in Saugatuck and she's not exactly a spring chicken. He's probably trying to get as much face time with her for his kids as possible before health & old age make it difficult. But while I don't know about Tyndall's family situation exactly, he's basically a transplanted Southerner at this point. Out of his entire coaching career (that started in 1994), he's spent a total of 3 years above the Mason-Dixon line. There may not be much there for him to make it worth going back, if the rest of his family is down here.

Until there are consistent years of winning 9+ games, Jones is getting paid enough. The assistants have yet to prove anything to earn a raise. Pull our defense and offense out of the cellar of the SEC and maybe we can talk.

Winning= coaches deserving raises

just good recruiting= no significant raises

He is doing a great job. He has earned a small raise. He's not irreplaceable. He has brought in a lot of talent, beat a rival, and has everyone believing Tennessee is the place to be right now. That includes coaches that want to better themselves.

Butch is on his way to a big raise if he can win 8 or more games this year. Win 6 games and a bowl game and he'll get some kind of raise.

Regardless of the 2014 teams record, Butch and his key assistants will have to get significant raises this year. Other schools are watching them rebuild and recruit and that is exactly what every team needing to replace a coach or an assistant wants.. Going to have to open the pocket books up and write some big boy checks. Tennessee can not afford to loose any of these guys because of money and win or lose this year with the youngest team in the nation, these coaches HAVE to be rewarded. GO BIG ORANGE!

i think he will have to prove it on the field.

If he only 5 games this year no way he gets squat.. Most companies require progress to get a raise but this is same crap people were saying about fools in yr 2.. Let it play out

Thought I could get in before the "whoa, whoa, whoas" got started....... I was wrong.

I dont even know how much BJ makes but I can darn sure see that he is earning every bit of it.

With a 5-7 season? Let's give him 15 million a year if he goes 6-6 this year. Sounds about right.

Your funny. He's not a miracle worker. Like I said , I dont even know or care what he makes but I see him working harder than any coach weve had recently. Based on his history and his work ethic alone, I think his salary should be in the upper half of what the other SEC coaches make. If it is already, fine. If its not he should get a raise imo.

I think Butch is the guy, but he still needs to get W ' s before other schools come calling. Ron Zook was a tremendous recruiter and his phone isn't exactly lighting up.
