It is funny, Mark Richt does have the best record of all of them, and is the only one with his first 6 year's are in the SEC.

Mark Richt isnt that old eather...........I believe if Georgia keeps him, in 10-15 year's Georgia will make the Alabama's 2/3 year run of national titles look like childs play.

could have sworn i listed someone with an even better record.

Do it again and list their team or teams they were coaching in their first 6 years. That will tell the tale.

Not if you consider talent comparison from team to team. CBJ has won with the talent level of the teams he is playing against! Good grief you people kill me thinking everyone plays Bama or Oregon every week! Think before you type!

Have we met? I've never wanted CMR run out of town. Most informed UGA fans didn't either. He's the winningest HC in Georgia history.

I thought Richt was about 3rd or 4th on the list.

When Richt was hired, the most common reaction was, "Mark who??"

phil fulmer 63-11

Boom!!!!!!!!!!

Yep and Peyton was 40-6 of that and Tee Martin was 13-0! So without Peyton & Tee he was 10-5 those 1st 6 yrs. Takes a great QB to make a great coach! #'s don't lie!

Really? I would have thought that most true CFB fans would have known who the OC at FSU was. Particularly given the program's status at the time.

Nothing against the OP but these records are irrelevant.
You would have to throw in the competition to that time to make a valid comparison.
The SEC is Nowhere close to what it was 6 years ago.

Winning records are pretty indicative of how a coach will do.

I know. It's groundbreaking stuff.

I was just wondering who's first 6 were primarily in the sec. And that does matter.

I can't tell if your trying to blast my post or just going off what I said, but if you are try a little harder next time and make it more direct because I have no idea where you were going with that.If your not ...Sry.

Not blasting your post at all. Just answering it the way it was written. If you were talking about 1st six SEC games, then my bad, because I absolutely agree with you. It does matter then, but it didn't say that in the post. Thus my answer.

It's all good.

What's your point? Being a great coach includes recruiting great potential and developing it into great players and great teams.

Oh, and before anyone makes the next weak point, great head coaches surround themselves with great assistant coaches and then let's the coaches do their job.

This information was provided by Mobile Vol soon after Jones was hired at UT. Looks good to me.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All, here are the facts about the top 3 current SEC coaches and their winning percentage as head COLLEGE coaches before they came to the SEC along with the average games won per year based upon 12 games per year (obviousley wasn't 12 back in the day, but whatever) -

1. Steve Spurrier - W20-L13 - 61% winning - 7.3 Average per year games won.
2. Nick Saben - W43-L26 - 62% winning - 7.4 apygw
3. Les Miles - W28-L21 - 57% winning - 6.8 apygw

Now our current coach -
Butch Jones - W50-L27 - 65% winning - 7.8 apygw

Simple Math and better than the top 3.

Everyone Relax and get ready for some wins.

That's how it works in the real world too. The ones who succeed are the ones who surround themselves with the best people. A great leader is the person that realizes that having great help is the key. Surround yourself with the best and they can't help but make you look better.

Am I the only one who, after reading a BOOM, hears John Madden in their head say "tough actin' Tenactin"?

Not anymore! Thanks for getting THAT stuck in my head now. I'll never be able to look at another boom again.

Rude....just rude
