"Butch" Don't Do A Dooley

Palardy and Darr were supposed to be "can't miss" prospects. After those two I think I am philosophically opposed to recruiting them at all. We should hold open try-outs and let them walk-on and get a scholly that way.

Dooley did this iirc. But like I said dropping a kids scholly isn't so easy. Also I'm sure there aren't a bunch of sec caliber kickers on campus. Did UT turn into a ncaa soccer powerhouse over the last decade?? Wasn't that Brody's kid everyone's favorite until he missed kicks???

The walk-on phenomenon is just that...a phenomenon. Not something to hang your hat on. Just IMHO that's all...

There are some many positions of need on this team. Wasting scholarships on positions where you have players is such a tough decision. You act if Dooley didn't try to better the situation. Unless you blame him for bullock breaking his leg. When you get handed the #1 kicker and punter in the country it's tough to look at those positions as "needs" when there are so many other needs.

It baffles me that people frankly don't understand how cfb coaches need to work within a recruiting limit. They can't just go out and higher and fire players. If they recruit them and they don't work out they (unless u r Saban) just can't drop thier scholly's and move on without the possibility of negative PR. It's hard to pull off "didn't make his grades" on a kicker.

Everyone knows that our kicking game is a weak link, yeah even DDs staff knew it too, just not easy to fix. No matter how good a kicker a kid is in HS.

Now that's a good one right there.

At the close of the 2011 season we all knew we didn't have satisfactory punting or place kicking. I think I am being very kind with that statement. Dooley did recruit Bullock, but that still wouldn't have adressed the punting. Now after 2012 season we still have the same problem. Neither coach Dooley or Coach Jones have recruited any replacements. If I have missed it please correct me. We definently need more talent at almost every position, speed, strength being up there. jst don't forget the kicking game. I don't remember a really good team that we have had that didn't have good kicking.

Jonathan King from Farragut-- I'm telling ya!!

With our defense it didn't matter if you punted and pinned the other team on their own 1. They still had the same odds of scoring.

Not that it matters, but shouldn't the quotes be around "Dooley"? Anyways, carry on....

I've heard this argument about kicking...it does suck and I'm sure it will be addressed but to be completely honest this team has a lot more concerns outside of kicking. It's not like we were losing a lot of 1 point games. We were getting kicked around by Vandy and giving up tons of yards to Troy on DEFENSE. Obviously, losing our starting QB and both WR's is a huge deal too...maybe the fact that Butch has embraced the former lettermen will be good for the kickers.

Can anyone name an area where we do not need improvement? Maybe the O line and that is it.

There's no such a thing as not needing improvement. Arrogance is the foundation of disappointments and failures. The OL for example could always use depth. An injury here, a failed class there, an illness elsewhere can dent then collapse the sure thing OL just like that.

There just isn't any such a thing as not needing improvement. Tiny is superb in my view, but needs work on consistent blocking, remember Clowney finally getting by him and nailing Bray in the USCe game? And I think he or someone had repeated false start or illegal motion penalties in several games. I know what you mean by not needing improvement but there is no such thing as that.

He needs to come in here and COMPLETLY change the players views of how a head coach should act towards his players.. Which I think he will..the thing about dooley is he had to pull a silver spoon out of his mouth everytime he talked to one of them.

Its hard to fix all of your recruiting needs in a season or two...that said, kicking can be addressed with one, or two, good recruits. Go get them coach!
