Butch Jones challenges players 3/21/13

So strong that his first instinct is to bounce it outside on every run?

Solid.

I will say that Neal showed signs of improvement at times. Some RB's never grasp the concept of getting 5 yards out of a play that's blocked for 5 yards. Many times, you will see a team end up "behind the chains" because the RB is looking for the home run on every play. It can be difficult to break out of that mindset.

Physically Neal is a great talent. He was very highly rated out of HS, and his size and speed are SEC quality. Those things have never been the issue.
It is the mental aspects. Great TBs come in various shapes and sizes, but they generally share something in common. Toughness and vision.

Thats great and all but when the lights come on Lane is the guy that needs to have the ball. Neal can do whatever he wants in practice. I don't care.

One of the reasons Dooley's staff tinkered with him in the slot was his aversion to hitting the hole, and or seeing the hole in the first place.

This isn't the conference to be in if you are a running back who is afraid to hit the hole.

We saw some improvement in this area last year. Lane is a more natural, between the tackles runner. Neal was leading rusher despite missing two games with injury.

Because he got more attempts. Lane had a higher YPC. 4.5 vs 5.5

If you noticed, the running game really flourished last year when they ran the one back set out of the shotgun with a lot of zone read. They wore UGA out with this. (he had 104 rushing and 53 receiving) This should fit well with Jone's offense. If you line Neal up in the I, then forget it. But of course that doesn't even fit with Jones' scheme.

The running game will really flourish when Neal is sitting down and Lane is carrying the rock 20 times a game.

Why Lane didn't play more last year is beyond me. At one point it was something stupid like not talking enough in practice. He needs to be the one carrying the ball. If he needs a break, throw the ball. Rinse and repeat.

I have always though ML was a more natural RB, confidence last year was broken for what ever reason. I thought he was working thru an injury but I may have been wrong.

I like the fast pace practice, It exposes what was obivious last year that our LB crew is lacking speed and tackeling. The 2 times that I saw a long run from the opposing teams was at AJ, really needs to work on point of attack, but always liked CM just had turf toe that doesnt go away until you get off it, nag him all year.

===========
Kicker Michael Palardy hit four field goals in a row, which Jones announced to the practice field in order to add pressure for his fifth attempt.

"Uh-oh, it's on the left hash now, Palardy," Jones said.
