Is this confirmed? My friend just texted me that we just hired this clown

If we have, then I guess that will mean we somehow kept Chancellor Cheek grounded in Knoxville.

If true, then it will represent a desperate hire made by someone who spent considerable time promising the boosters he could deliver a home-run hire.

Could be worse. It could be Kirby Smart.

But (again if true) it also should've been much better.

Well done. This is a pretty accurate assessment of the situation. Should have been better, but could have been worse. Not a terrible hire by any means.

10-3 & 9-3 and back to back Big East titles? If that's average, I hope we get back to average!

Pretty sure Dooley could of had us at 9-3 in the big east. Not an improved hired in my opinion more of a lateral move maybe slightly better but sure does not justify a five million dollar buy out if I'm a booster

Blast away

Well, my thoughts. If he can rally the team and coach in a manner that players will give their all for him/UT then this is a step.

Key will be upgrading the D staff...if he cleans house he will show us he gets it.

If you were as excited about possibly hiring Strong then you should be for Jones as well. Not much difference!

In 3 years at Cincinnati
Butch Jones - 23–14

In 3 years at Louisville
Charlie Strong - 24-14

Head to Head

Jones - 2
Strong - 1

So what if he comes from the Big East, Sumlin just came into the SEC from Conference USA. He is doing alright!

Some numbers for you! (34-24) & (28-21)!

What's this you ask? The records of Nick Saban & Les Miles at Michigan St. & Oklahoma St. before they were hired by LSU!

Dude I hope you just has Conference USA on your mind when you said that.

Dooley @ time of hire: 17-20
Jones @ time of hire(possibly): 50-27

How is that similar?

Butch Jones had Central Michigan sitting with their best team ever when he left.
Butch Jones has won 9 games in back to back years, maybe 10 with a bowl win.
He may not be the best candidate to walk the earth, but there is no reason to berate him as the worst hire ever. If Dave Hart picks him and he gives UT is all i will support him through and through. I'm not sure he can get it done, but he's damn sure got a much better resume than Dooley did.

I think you better look again. He left the cupboards BARE at Central Michigan. He won with Brian Kelly's recruits. Did the same thing at Cincinnati.

Dooley would have went 9-3 in the Big East with SEC talent and resources. Butch Jones did it with Big East talent and resources. Butch Jones isn't a home run hire but in his 6 seasons as HC he has won 3 conference titles. If he had coached their bowl he could have gotten to 10 wins this year, giving him back to back ten win seasons. Recruiting is my main concern. Hard tell if he's a good recruiter because no one recruits well in the Big East.

I don't know how anyone can anonymously defend this clown online if that's who we hire.

How is he a clown? Just won another coach of the year in his conference, something Strong has not done. Also 2-1 vs Strong. Oh and he has recruited better than Strong.

Dooley would still probably have gone 6-6 at best and hen blamed his players.

How is he leaving Cincinnati bare? They have a lot of talent returning. You people are embarrassing.

While I would have preferred other coaches first I will not have a problem getting behind him. He has proven he can win at every level he's been so far just like every other good coach in the SEC. (With the exception of our last) So we are already improved.
