I found this short post game interview summary (1:42) of a Butch Jones presser after losing to Rutgers. First off, check out the brutal hit at 20 seconds. Dang! Anyway, I like how CBJ is so compassionate for the players and the fans. I also like how he addresses "the agony of defeat" but quickly shakes his humility and adds how they need to move forward, fix errors and get ready to play again. Next, he apologizes to the fan base and commends them for their showing.

The end is the best though. CBJ tells them,"Dont Lose faith. We have a group of players that are fighters. They wont give up."

He's straight up backing up his team right after a tough loss. He's got their back. I respect the hell outta that.

He ends with, "I'll get it done. Everyone in our football program will get it done."

....And he does!

Like a bad azz, he wins the final two games and then wins his bowl game. Nothing ground breaking here, I know but I've always found you can see people's true colors at low times. I'm liking what I see here after a crippling loss. Go Vols, Go CBJ!

Actually it might be something groundbreaking. Because I'm pretty sure the last coach would have spoken about how bad the team sucks after losing.

Dooley after losing: We are just a bad team. Schematic, dynamic, stature, process....were just a bad team. Anything else?

SIAP. I saw this and was immediately fired up:

"I have tremendous respect for all the coaches in this conference, but we are ready to compete against everyone in all aspects. The velocity and intensity at which we will attack recruiting will be noticed." -Butch Jones.

We will know more after ducks n gators this fall.. If he gets blown out .. How will the team play against ga..

I'm not an insider, nor a psychic....or a psycho even.

But I just know....this coach and this team won't get blown out by anyone.

Butch lost his 3 games last year by a combined 15 points.

Butch lost his 3 games in 2011 by 42 points. We were responsible for 22 of those.

His first year at Cincy was not as good mind you. But in his toughest game (Vs. #9 Oklahoma) he only lost by two.

To put it in perspective, we lost our games last year by a combined 94 points. And that was with a top draft QB, and two top WR's on offense. And one of the best OL in the country.

So I just don't think that Butch is going to get blown out of anywhere. Man works his butt off.

Exactly.

It's amazing how so little could have completely changed people's perspectives of CBJ. A FG away from being 3-0 against Charlie Strong, and he was 15 pts away from going 13-0 last year.

It's also interesting to note that Cincy scored 420 pts last year, while only giving up 239.

I like your enthusiasm, but I don't see the relevance here. Totally different level of competition and the 94 points for seven losses is no worse than 42 points for three losses.

It's completely relevant.

Just because we are talking about playing in the Big East vs. SEC does not mean that his coaching ability is any less.

Butch coached in the Big East with Big East players. And he played Big East teams.

Butch is now coaching in the SEC with SEC players. Give Butch UT's roster at Cincy, and I guarantee you he does even better. You can't argue it's not relevant.

Different level of competition? Yes. But Butch has shown that he can gameplan against any level of competition with the talent that he has.

I'm not saying he won't lose. I'm saying he is a coach who prepares well, and who makes a gameplan based on the talent that he has.

And 42 points in 3 losses is much better than the 94 points in 7 losses, when the 94 points should have never happened. 42 points with a Big East defense to a SEC offense, West Virginia known for a dynamic offense, and a Rutgers team that went 9-4 that year is not as bad as allowing 26 to Akron, 48 to Troy, and 41 to Vanderbilt.

Sorry, but you can expect non-perfection from a Big East level talent defense against talented offenses, especially one with Da'Rick, Justin and Tyler. But you can't expect or accept giving up major points Akron, Troy, or Vanderbilt.

Spot on my man. Very good reasoning and I think it just adds to the resume that is spilling out on Butch Jones. Multiple folks are showing how many ways that CBJ is a winner and NOT a loser.

Sure, he will lose some games, but he does so not because of lack of preparation, work and attitude. He does so because no one is perfect, but overall he WILL win. I have no doubt because he reflects a winner in so many aspects. GBO!!!

42 divided by 3 is slightly worse than 94 Divided by 7 neither is considered close scores in my opinion. Yes our defense was awful. As far as the points given up to UT that really counters your argument, yes we had really good offense in 2012, not as good in 2011, a terrible defense in 2012 and a bad defense in 2011. The reality is only time will tell on the actual battlefield. But these comparison are totally theoretical. As a VOL fan and Grad, I hope we do great, but seeing is believing at this point.

I do agree that UT does seem like the one super odd loss on Butch's resume. Seems like that was the one game where Dooley coached, and where Butch had a brain fart.

I just think that what we will see is a well prepared team, and a coach that takes losing personally and points the finger at himself first.

I can deal with that.

the question is how will he handle losing if we lose at all this season? losing at Tennessee is unacceptable especially after these last three years. Dooley has used everything that can be said or done when it comes to losing. so unless butch jones starts breaking things which would be nice to see, he might as well play a dooley press conference tape after one of our losses last year as we have heard it all. Don't forget the famous "Work like heck and look the film" from phil. Go Vols!!

Rich...Care to follow up your manifesto "out of nowhere" that the mods deleted? I truly don't understand what that was about.

Butch didnt have a brain fart, he just got out athleted by 2 NFL wide receivers and an NFL QB, jmo. many people, not saying you TNH, like to point out that the SEC's superiority over the Big East when talking about Jone's success there, but ridicule him for losing against UT, with a Big East roster.

This kind of talk is especially refreshing to hear after hearing our former coach throw players under the bus and talk about how bad of a shape our football team is in the majority of the time he was on the job here.
