Butch Jones is Actually a Good Hire

Tennessee got "The Guy". I truly believe this. Why people are hating on a proven winner is so beyond me?? Recruiting does not matter this year. Next year it will. If he can win then he will pull in recruits. UT is still a brand name, just without wins. Tennessee got a good guy today, even if they didn't mean to, and 99% of this board hates it. It's so ****ing dumb. Makes me sick. Crucify Dooleys, not guys who make their teams better.

People are hating on the hire because Tennessee's fanbase consists of mud-licking hillbillies who were stupid enough to think an NFL guy was going to come to coach our team.

About him wanting to be here... He took a day or two to mull over the colorado job and then turned it down, plus it was stated he turned down a number of other jobs which we will probably never know which ones. Yesterday he was contacted in the morning and as stated it took him two hours to decide he was UT's head coach. It speaks to the appeal of the UT job which many claim isn't as appealing as it use to be.

Now as to him riding kelly's coattails... If all he needs to see is a talent pool being left, he seems to have witnessed that from dooley's efforts. Gruden, Gundy, Strong, 'whoever you wanted and didn't get' are not the only coaches of quality! The man made it work at cincy and before that 'the name escapes me'. Two schools with not as much appeal as UT. At Ut, better talent will be available to him. GIVE IT TIME!

This was a despiration hire. There is no way it can be called anything other than that.
I'm done with the whole mess. I am not going to anymore games, football or basketball. The basketball hire was the same way.
This AD department is a joke.

I'll give CBJ 3 years to prove he can recruit and coach just like CDD was given.

That's what all real Vols fans should do.

Support our new HC and our footVol program and STOP all the negative, immature, childish garbage that DOES HURT our recruiting.

CBJ...You have 3 years to prove yourself and the clock starts ticking right now so get a solid staff together and make your 1st recruiting class a good one.

VFL...GBO!!!

This fanbase would boo and hiss Bill Belichick. Oh wait, Belichick is from Tennessee huh? Belichickers?

CBJ just needs to be given a chance. The guy has won everywhere he has been, i don't see UT being any different.

Of course, he's not Gruden.

Just watched the press conference for the second time. I think its a good hire. I never really like the Gundy talk. And Strong was OK but not really what I want at Tennessee. Butch came from left field but after watching his press conference. That's what Tennessee needs a good coach fired up about coming to UT. I think he will build his team around the players we have and not try to run packages that are made for a certain type of players. I will say I am glad to have you Coach Jones. Now lets go kick some SEC tail. VFL. It's Great to be a Tennessee Vol.

Butch Jones has had two head coaching jobs previous to this one. He had a winning record at both. He has an overall winning record. That is way more that Dooley had. No he has not coached in the SEC. I can't think of a coach who started in the SEC. Jones is a head coach. Dooley is an assistant coach. I will support the man and I hope he is successful here.

You sound like me at the Dooley hire. Fool me twice shame on me.

Good point Zetter. Me too.

BUT, I do think CBJ is much further along at this point in his coaching carreer than Dooley was with more success. Guess I am still lookin thru my orange tinted glasses. Don't really have much choice but to support and wait n see.

When he starts getting players that Florida, Georgia or South Carolina have offered I will get on board. The players he recrutied at his other jobs are totally different. The UTAD has accomplished what they set out to do and that was to get a coach in there that most people would believe in and we could all start beleiving the fantasy again and this fantasy is that the athletic department is commited to doing what it takes to be a top notch program. All they are interested in is getting the average fan to come to the games and spend money. If they do this they are happy.

lol, who played in a better confrence against better teams?

Isn't the level of competition consistent among each conference? Aren't most BE teams fielding about the same level of talent? Even if the BE teams don't measure up to the SEC, wouldn't winning your own conference mean something?

There was nothing stupid about expecting that gruden might come. There is something stupid about projecting such an unreasonable attitude that it may keep top ranked coaches from comming. For the first two years dooley was on the right track. How we lost the first dc I don't know but what we got in his place seemed to set us back quite a bit.

And furthermore... right in the middle of rebuilding and two years of ontrack progress they decide to change the defensive scheme. That was really dumb.

Agree with the first part and, according to some of our players, he had offered them scholarships at UC but they picked an SEC school instead. Wi5h the right assistant coaches, he may have good inroads to the south as well as Ohio, Pennsylvania etc, that wouldn't be bad. As for the rest, who knows?

I'm hoping the third time is the charm. The previous two coaching hires have understandably generated a lot of cynicism among the Vol fanbase. This does put more pressure on Butch Jones to succeed than either Coach Majors or Coach Fulmer faced when they took over as head coach. Coach Jones seems up to the challenge. I think he is a solid hire. His coaching resume is much more impressive than the two previous hires and for that matter, even more impressive than Fulmer when he was initially hired.

I must say that from the beginning I was skeptical at best with Kiffin and Dooley and I never really had a different feeling through either tenure as much as I wanted to.. With that being said I supported them and spent my money and made my way up to Neyland regularly..

I said all that to lead up to the fact that I believe this guy is the right guy for the job.. The coaching search was a disaster in terms of PR but I believe that we finally have a proven commodity back on the hill..

The man is a winner and has proven it with 4 conference titles in 6 years and I am a firm believer that success like that translates to any level of athletics..

Butch Jones is a charismatic guy with core values and a personality that breeds success and makes people want to rise to his level(players and colleagues)

A new era has begun in Knoxville and we as a fanbase can be the driving force behind a rise back to prominence.. Let's unite as VOLNATION!!! GBDO!!!!
