Butch to build offense around Tight Ends this year

I'm looking forward to us firing on all cylinders again.

This is the best point of all. If we are good at all skill positions, and we utilize each position wisely, then the defense will lose all confidence. They will not know where we will strike next.

A well-rounded team is something that I never knew how to scheme against. It's a nightmare - unless it's your team doing it.

I saw Mack Crowder tonight with a guy that looked a lot like Brendan downs, and he looked terribly out of shape.

I seem to remember Rivera making quite a few nice plays.

And Luke Stocker in '09 and '10...Fulmer didn't like to throw to the TE except occasionally in the red zone but I don't see the relevance to the current staff who has a completely different philosophy.

I remember John Finlayson that Fulmer had in the mid 90s. He had great hands for a bigger TE. They just never threw to him much. Used him as a blocker. I somewhat understand with the ground game we had in those days.

Of all the running jokes I've seen on VN over the years, none have grown so old so fast more than the Hurd "too tall to TE" BS.

Give it a rest.

I'd like to see a Jason Witten emerge in this offense, and Butch is just the guy to make that happen. It's about time we featured the Tight End position more. With the receivers we have there should be plenty of seams and underneath room for the TE thrive. Just another brick the offensive wall Butch is building.

Butch Jones wants offense to be 'tight-end oriented' - The Commercial Appeal

Props to your avi.

Can you imagine us playing a good deal of 2TE sets, with Wolfe & Helm as the TE's and North + Croom at wideout?...then you factor in Hurd. That's 5 BIG bodies defenses have to defend in the passing game. Some poor DB is going to look like a Hobbit next to these guys. And that little Hobbit will be serving peanuts off the top of his head. :)

I am not sure the offense will be build around the tight end position, however, I do believe the tight end will be used much more this year than it was last year. Just another reason why the offense will be much better tis year.

You obviously didn't see Downs because he is probably the most physical capable and 'in shape' specimen on our team. The guy is an incredible athlete. You really shouldn't speculate and make comments like this about our athletes.

Agreed.

76 receptions for 1018 yards over 3 seasons isn't exactly a focus of the offense though.

Best season he was 3rd on team in receptions.

I'll stand by my original statement. Every Vol coach promises to get the TE more involved. Doesn't actually happen much.

I'm afraid his knee is shot from playing hurt all last season. I hope not for the kid though
