I get the feeling that Butch thinks this team is far better than last season. He will never say that I know. He has cancelled a lot of practices just don't see that happening if the team isn't looking good. Of course the SEC is a rough place to play without a lot of seasoned veterans. The goal is to get to six wins this season anymore will be fabulous any less will be hurtful but understood.
This is a bit of an aside, but do you guys think that Butch and others in the coaching community knew Dooley was in over his head even back when Cincy came to Neyland?
I mean, up to that point Dooley had actually performed decently (aside from the LSU debacle), but sometimes I wonder if coaches can pretty easily tell who actually knows what they're doing on the sidelines and just from hearsay in coaching circles.

Most coaches have a philosophy and core values that they believe have made them successful that they carry with them to every program they coach.....don't understand some of the reactions to this. In fact, I would be more concerned if he came off a different guy with different verbiage at Cincy than what he has now.
This...he has succeeded everywhere he's been and its just a matter of time before we start seeing it on the field here. All coaches have philosophies and core values that they implement into their programs. His have proven to work, but it will take time to show. Why would he change what has worked for him at his former schools? This is UT and we expect to get back to where we were when 9-3 was kind of a disappointing year, but we got to give Butch time to get the overall roster talent and depth back to where it was in the good ole days. This is SEC football and requires SEC talent and experience. Coach is killing it on the recruiting trails, and once that overall talent and depth fills out the bulk of the roster and the players get a little experience under them, we will be back competing for titles. His program is working just like it did at Cincy and Central Michigan, we just got to be patient as fans.
Also, I'm a first time poster that's been reading these forums for years, and just wanted to say I'm proud to be a Vol and love the passion you folks on Volnation have for our great university! Sorry for the long, first time post guys!
