Bye CBS

Just like with John Ward, a lifetime of Vol Memories associated with those CBS games. I will miss them. At least, unlike ESPN, they were free and I didn’t need to spend extra money or spend hours trying to get a lousy buugy streaming app to work.

He's just a bandwagon rider, he fellates whoever is winning. Bama has won alot since he's been around and so it seems like he's a Bama guy, but he used to throat Tebow as well. If he had called games in the 90's we'd have a totally different perspective on him most likely.
The winning teams get the praise.

I've never been a fan of Danielson, but it was Lundquist I couldn't take. His ego became bigger than his bloated body over his last several years, and he constantly did the one thing I hate most in broadcasters, involving himself (and Danileson) in the broadcast.

Announcers used to just call the damn game, with the game being the star, but in the last 25-30 years the broadcasters have become 'stars', particularly the 'top' network broadcasters, like Nance and Buck. Lundquist was really good early on, but became a 'star' doing the SEC, and clearly fell in love with his own voice. Nessler's arrival couldn't come soon enough, and he's a low key guy who calls a great game.
This call is a stone classic, just perfect. "He got it ............................... and here they come".

Won’t matter. Someone less social conscious focus will know how to bank money with the product.
The SEC package should be extremely profitable for ESPN and they've started to cut ties to some overpaid talent. This hopefully shows they are become more $$$/value conscious. They need somehow to find a way to market themselves to Gen Z, as the numbers don't look good going forward. ESPN also needs to stop overpaying for sports packages that do not give a good return on investment. They have to get their YouTube and TikTok highlight videos posted much sooner, with better production values, and begin to view those platforms as a legitimate revenue stream and a marketing tool. I'm not sure where their streaming channel is profitability-wise but I think it's at least growing in terms of subscriptions. I could be wrong. Again though, they need to become more politically neutral/bland as you said. Many view sports as an escape from politics and simply do not appreciate politics in sports regardless of political affiliation. In addition, some of the fat still needs to be trimmed from corporate management. They are WAY overpaying for the leadership they are receiving in return. Furthermore, they need to be very conscious about their price points to consumers going forward, so that they do not drive out middle and lower class consumers. This is particularly concerning considering how much Disney is raising its prices recently.

I certainly will not miss that Bama sycophant Gary Danielson.
Bama? He lives in Florida... and called games like a UF homer.

Neither one of them did their homework and persistently called Vol players by the wrong name or got background factoids wrong.

Exactly. My fondest memories are of the Sean McDonough / Terry Donahue booth. It's no coincidence that they called over half our games in 1998. While I do think they were pretty good, there is no question that my perception was formed by how much I enjoyed the games they called.
Sean McDonough’s call on the Stoerner fumble and the final drive against Arkansas still gives me chills

What’s up PV….. haven’t seen you around in a while. You been busy checking prostates and handling other medical assessments?

Fortunately we don’t do prostate exams generally much anymore. But currently in my second year of residency, going well though!
