BYU - Unbelievable

Warped? Do you even know why they asked him to stop attending class? The article says his presence was a distraction for other students, but never goes so far as to say it's why BYU asked him to stop going.

So Fredette is a bigger, more distracting star on his campus than Tebow was on his? Or Colt McCoy was at Texas? Or Matt Leinart was at USC? Or Peyton Manning was in Knoxville? BYU is a joke.

Did those other guys go to class in the end? I think I remember seeing Manning on campus his Junior year but never had any classes with him. Eh, I have no real problem with BYU. He can get his degree after his shot at the NBA any time.

Nonsense thread. They REQUESTED that he stop. They didn't require it. And they are letting him do all of his coursework online! And Fredette's father agreed with the decision. Where is the controversy?

Don't know if it rises to the level of controversy, but it's just one more example of BYU proving itself to be just an overgrown collective of homeschoolers. This crap doesn't happen at real schools.

I imagine he got caught drinking a cup of coffee and broke the "honor code" so they did this to him.

It's pretty much what you'd expect from an institution where higher education is subordinate to the mission of perpetuating the myth of a man who talked to God by sticking his face into a magic hat.

I wondered during the NCAAs how a player could survive drawing a technical foul. It seems like the language that drew the technical would also violate the honor code.

Ever been at UT during the summer when the home schooler's convention comes to town? Scary stuff let me assure you. I felt like I had descended to the 7th level of the Ford 15 passenger van hell.

Some of the responses to that article were unbelievable, and I'm normally an open minded guy.

Have you ever read the stuff that Mormons are asked to believe? It's impossible to make as much fun of them as they deserve. Every religion spins a few whoppers, but LDS doctrine plays in the same league of crackpottery as Scientology. Every religion has a point at which you have to throw your hands up and say, "We can't know the explanation for that; it's something we've got to take on faith," but Mormons have to do that almost immediately because literally nothing in their sacred text is compatible with history, archaeology, linguistics, etc.

If you're more interested in temporal affairs, have a look at Under The Banner of Heaven. And then think about the fact that the LDS Church basically owns an entire state of the Union.

You would enjoy the "Compare Joseph Smith, Jr and L. Ron Hubbard" thread in the Politics Forum. Check it out.
