I understand that:

1. I was never a recruit
And...
2. I was possibly raised differently than some of these recruits

But all the comments about "we'll see if they make it in" are still, at the age of 32, weird to me.

If I told someone I was going to attend and then decided not to, my parents would beat me absolutely senseless, tell me i had already told them i would be there, hogtie me, and then throw me in the luggage compartment of the plane.

Sorry for the run on sentence.

A lot changes in a month especially when you're coming in all the way from California

Not if you're in my household. Which is why I spent 5 minutes typing that entire post lol
Alright lol. Go spend your own money to fly or drive to LA multiple times and then get a hotel and spend the weekend for a school you probably won't end up at but do want to get a look at while working a 7v7 and summer practice schedule. Also if you want to early enroll you might have to take summer classes. While all that is happening, you might commit before then. If you have some free time, you're a kid and it's going to be your last summer to hang with your people with college football spring/summer practice. Also have to work with your personal trainer(s) somewhere in that. Also have several other schools trying to get you in on visits and might be doing something in the summer to make a little money. Also have to worry about everyone else in the family's schedule working out to make it all the way across the country twice in a couple months. Life isn't simple lol

Sounds like you had some lackluster parenting.

Been a while since I saw the “my parents were harder than yours” flex.

If your parents beat you for canceling plans, that says more about your family than it does for any of the players Tennessee is recruiting.

I suppose you're right, they (he, for the sake of the thread) never said they committed to it. It seems like there's a lot of these threads where people "don't make it in" which has always seemed odd to me. But I guess I don't understand everyone's situation. A lot of these "didn't make it in" comments seem to happen last minute (particularly the ones day of). But this one is still pretty far out.

All that being said, my experience is anecdotal. It's possible I'm just remembering the ones that stand out in my memory and not the whole.

Oh yeah, no doubt my parents were hard on us for honoring commitments. I exagerrated a bit in that post (thought that was obvious but if you thought they'd throw us in the luggage compartment you should contact DCS immediately) but pretty much from childhood if I told someone I was going to do something, it was going to get done. I don't really see that as a negative and it's something I'm going to teach my kids.

Remember that recruits could have had a discussion with the coaches ahead of time that they don’t have with the media. Just because you don’t hear about it until the last minute doesn’t mean the decision and communication with the school was last minute.

Shhh you’re getting in the way of people so insecure they have to criticize 17/18 year olds to prove to strangers on the internet how much integrity they have.

Kid is pretty locked at the hip with Brandon Baker. Seems like both are heading to Oregon but if they actually make it in for the BBQ, we'll have a shot. I seriously doubt it but would've said the same about Bennett Warren and Elijah Rushing a few weeks back so you never know.

Even if it’s 10000000/1 odds, it doesnt hurt to bring them in. Even if they have no intention of playing here, show them a good time at let them pass on the hype to the future 4/5*s on their HS roster and in their camp circuits out west. Plus you never know who will eventually end up in the portal.
