That's why it's a big deal, because choosing to sign with Spyre all but guarantees he signs with Tennessee. Spyre only operates for Tennessee Student Athletes.
While they cannot say, "you must attend the university of Tennessee," by signing with Spyre, he is forfeiting his option to make any NIL money outside of them.
So, if he chose to sign with Spyre and then signed his NLI with Oregon, he cannot take any NIL opportunities in Oregon, unless they were coordinated by Spyre (which they wouldn't, because Spyre only works with Tennessee athletes and Tennessee businesses).
So, basically, Nico would be forced to sign here and earn up to $8M, OR sign elsewhere, get $350k, and not a penny more until he went to the NFL. It isn't forcing him to sign anywhere. But it is saying, "if you want to be with our company, your best interest for making maximum money is to be in Knoxville where we operate."
