When Spyre made it’s debut into our consciousness, it made a very small splash. I maintain contact with De1, because I continue to believe that he’s a hugely disgruntled fan, and he mocked the “weak” efforts in this most recent class. Particularly with Walter Nolen. He said that Garner sold what his coaching could do for him but pretty much gave him a “take it or leave it” pitch and Spyre’s NIL offer was “a joke” in comparison to the Aggies. That and similar takes on the Zach Evans and Jahmyr Gibbs efforts had me virtually depressed. That narrative seemed to hold true after Early Signing Day. But the West and Pearce gets show that there were other factors in play. The money’s been there but Spyre was making sure that flexing muscle wouldn’t blow up in UT’s face with the NCAA investigation as an integer. Something’s been settled and the game is on…free and clear. Credit to Swain for continuing to preach “all is well” with the minions wailing and flailing over the class and the portal. By the time the rest of us KNOW something, something’s already been done.I’ll be first to admit I felt like Tennessee wouldn’t ever commit to money like that. Secondly, I knew the offense would be fine recruiting wise but I am a bit concerned about the defense. Tennessee needs a lot of quality bodies almost immediately
Curious…… what is DE1’s thoughts on what we are doing now? When Spyre made it’s debut into our consciousness, it made a very small splash. I could be wrong, but I’ll add that I don’t think UT/Spyre wanted to match the Aggie price. I think the could’ve even at that date if they wanted to.When Spyre made it’s debut into our consciousness, it made a very small splash. Possibly. Maybe Garner helped make that call. Didn’t sound like a fan. I think the Hardy recruitment while at Auburn soured him on going all in on highly rated DL with questionable energy/effort. My opinion only…nothing I know.I could be wrong, but I’ll add that I don’t think UT/Spyre wanted to match the Aggie price. I think the could’ve even at that date if they wanted to.
i think sometimes those kind of prospects...you wonder about the motivation/want to. may be all world talent, but doesn't matter if not applied appropriately. i'm still very curious to see how aTm does over the next few years and just how much of a bang this past class actually makes. i don't get the feeling (opinion only) that they all are in college station because they just love them some aggies. i do think money was the primary motivator, relationships, culture etc...not so much.Possibly.
