Not true!! I personally have an NIL deal with the English Department at Alabama College of Journalism and Trailer Park Maintainence. Get paid every time I post without a grammatical error. So far not so good.I dont know how the NIL will ultimately affect college football but I am certain it has made this forum worse.
Well. In my scenario the 5 star Olineman are getting paid. Also, who would draft Olineman that would let the QB hurt??What about the current players? The guys that have already poured their blood, sweat, and tears into the program? Recruiting is just part of the equation. A 5* QB means squat if the guys protecting him have animosity towards him. You can recruit the 5 best OL in the country, but if they all have to start in the SEC as true freshmen, they'll get destroyed every week. What I'm saying is that it's a delicate balancing act. One that bringing in a class full of pay for play guys makes it impossible to achieve, if current players aren't getting nice paydays as well.
It would be great for our entire O line to get drafted, but right now the only definites out of our projected starters are Jerome Carvin and Darnell Wright. Also it would be obvious if someone just whiffed on every pass play. Doing it once or twice a game is not so obvious, it has definitely happened before in college football.Well. I never got that NIL was an INTENTION. More the resulting embers from an incendiary bomb! If left to their druthers, the multi-billion dollar monopoly would have stuck to the long con that was college sports.I'm not against players getting paid. NIL can be a great thing for college athletics, but it has to have structure. Currently, it's an unregulated monster. I'm have no complaints If Nico got the rumored deal that he got. He went straight to work trying to earth it, and it hasn't changed his work ethic. But, the idea of buying recruiting classes is not what NIL was intended for.
I think we deviated from our original viewpoints over this past days or so.It would be great for our entire O line to get drafted, but right now the only definites out of our projected starters are Jerome Carvin and Darnell Wright. I’m sorry but this line of thinking is dumb it’s like saying people who are a legit working age are not allowed to make money? Since when has that ever been a thing? The idea that NIL should only be used while in college is ridiculousI'm not against players getting paid. NIL can be a great thing for college athletics, but it has to have structure. How is it dumb? I clearly stated that I'm not against college players making some money, but it is still amateur athletics until it's not. They are still deemed student athletes, with an emphasis on student. Many will disagree, but I played college football, and saw the varying degrees of immaturity in myself and my teammates. You might think it sounds crazy, but the next step if this goes unchecked, is paying players while in high school. Then middle school...etc. Like I said in a earlier post, I'm against getting players whose sole interest is the payday. Yes, kids can work and get paid, but no18 year old is making 6 figures as a 5* burger flipper. Handing out 6 and 7 figure contracts to hundreds of 18 year olds is destined to do more harm than good.I’m sorry but this line of thinking is dumb it’s like saying people who are a legit working age are not allowed to make money? Why does saying they are student athletes make it some unquestioned rule that they should be seen in a different light from regular people? Students are allowed to make money just because they play a game that you like doesn’t make them different…and are you familiar with the working age requirement? most states you have to be a certain age to work so NIL would not apply to middle schoolers…How is it dumb? It’s not amateur athletics anymore even if it hasn’t been made official. How is it dumb? The fact is that they are seen in a different light than regular people. There are a ton of perks that come with being a division 1 football player, beyond the paid education, at major schools. To your point on middle schoolers, they would fall under the same guidelines and child actors. Let me give you a theoretical scenario. Right now, Spyre is largely dependent on donations from the fan base. So let's say we "buy" the #1 recruiting class in the country. This fan base will then expect immediate results. When the on field results the following season are 8-4, and 6 (who all received large sums of money) of the top 10 players from that #1 class hits the portal, what then? What happens when stories of entitled players and dissension in the locker room start circulating through national media? How fast will those donations dry up? How fast will they call for Heupel's head? Why does saying they are student athletes make it some unquestioned rule that they should be seen in a different light from regular people? Until now the perks of being a college athlete was a paid education with room and board which is nice however if they happen to get a life changing injury like something Inky Johnson sustained well maybe if they are lucky they will be as successful as Inky has become, but I wouldn’t bet on it so having more than an education to fall back on like thousands of dollars when they graduate is better than nothing…The fact is that they are seen in a different light than regular people. I promise you that the life of an athlete in full scholarship, and the life of a student on full academic scholarship are very different in the way of perks.Until now the perks of being a college athlete was a paid education with room and board which is nice however if they happen to get a life changing injury like something Inky Johnson sustained well maybe if they are lucky they will be as successful as Inky has become, but I wouldn’t bet on it so having more than an education to fall back on like thousands of dollars when they graduate is better than nothing…
Also playing the scenario game in which we get the number 1 recruiting class only to fail to live up to expectations is kind of ridiculous considering for the past 5-10 years Bama and Georgia have consistently recruited to those extremes and well we both know how that turned out for them
Lol you’re right the life of a student athlete is grueling with all of the practice and workout sessions they have to go to not to mention having to jungle school with all of that…the old way saw them getting compensated by boosters illegally under the table now they can finally earn money from their own name, image, and likeness for all of the blood sweat and tears they put into a program…what was your argument again?I promise you that the life of an athlete in full scholarship, and the life of a student on full academic scholarship are very different in the way of perks.
