It's probably conduit for the I.T.S. expansion but I'm not positive. I don't think we've :) started pulling fiber yet.

Cool. So, they'll be mailing out tickets w/o pulling anyone over? Not a good idea, IMO.

The law states that it's only in construction zones and that a construction worker HAS to be present.

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 55-8-198, is amended by adding a new subsection thereto, as follows:
(e) No surveillance cameras shall be permitted on federal interstate highways except for Smart Way cameras, other intelligent transportation system cameras or, when employees of the department or construction workers are present, surveillance cameras used to enforce or monitor traffic violations within work zones designated by the department of transportation; provided, that such cameras shall be operated only by a state entity.

I got a ticket mailed to me from a red light :)

well the city of Kingsport actually mailed it,not the red light

but i honestly think it is wiring for the government to be able to listen in on phones and to be able to GPS track newer cars,big brother is eveywhere

Probably retrofit the TDOT SmartWay cameras already in place. Luckily I don't think there are any plans for construction on I-40 within Knoxville.
