True; on the road as well. Tennessee has consistently played the toughest schedule in the nation the last few years. I would be embarrassed if Martin came out and said he wanted to drop a game because the schedule is just too hard. My God. This is Kentucky. The number one basketball program in the land.

I was embarrassed when Dooley did it in football.

I'm not taking up for Cal, because I think it's foolish to drop a game as well. But there is a significant difference in programs, and the reasoning behind playing a tough schedule. Bruce was looking to make a name for UT, and you can only achieve that by playing whoever, whenever, with a bring it on mentatlity. The place Bruce was trying to take the program is where Cal already sits. TIFWIW.

But make no mistake, there is one motive behind this move for Cal, which is to pad the wins and get better seeding in the tourney.

That makes sense and I would have to agree with you to a certain extent. But wouldn't it help your seeding more, if you played all three teams and won them all, which Kentucky would probably do most years with the way their recruiting has gone. Also, those games are a lot of fun for the fans which is what it is all about.

Key word being IF you win them all. All you have to do is look at his track record at Memphis, playing in a lesser conference. 2 or 3 losses and a conference title and he was almost a lock for a #1 seed. In a "BCS" conference like the SEC, the same applies, only stronger because of the better conference. I don't like it, but it's the easy way out.

You are all over it. I guess I let my hatred of Cal and Kentucky get the best of me. Forgive me for I am a Tennessee fan. I cannot help myself.

I don't get the concept of dropping tough games in college basketball. If I were a college basketball coach, I'd probably try to engineer the toughest schedule imaginable.

For the most part, the NCAA selection committee is very cognizant of strength of schedule (unlike pollsters for NCAA football, who will often mindlessly reward teams with good-looking records, even if they played nobody of note). In fact, one of the most famous NCAA selections was Georgia in the year where they had a record that was something like 16-14; all because of an impressive strength of schedule.

So if I'm a head coach and I have to drop a team from the schedule, I drop some no-name college. Playing tough competition makes your team better and it looks good on your NCAA resume --- so it makes sense to schedule the toughest teams you can.

As thou have asked, so shall it be done. Say 40 hail Marys and drink a 40oz, all is well.

Done.

Actually, most of my familty are Kentucky fans. My brother and I are black sheep since we were born and raised in Tennessee. You can take nothing away from the Kentucky fans. They love their Cats.
