"Memphis definitely outplayed us today. They played harder than us. They had more of a sense of urgency. So we definitely have a lot to learn. And we have a quick turnaround before our next game so we have a lot to fix in a 24 hour period."

I agree 100 percent were playing below our potential. Nice to still be winning, but this team can't miss that many easy shots. They have to shoot better than 40 percent and they have to stop fouling and putting teams on the foul line. I give Memphis a lot of credit they played with an energy they haven't had this season and they maintained to for the full forty minutes. The key to the win was three point shooting and the way we guarded Hegemann in the third quarter.

These pressers are quickly becoming legendary. A woman of few words, esp for obvious ass questions. The Belichick of WBB, answers in the fewest and most direct words possible. Then looks over the reporters as if challenging them to ask another dumb question. Player follows her lead and does the same.

It's funny how dedicated CKC is to her image of badassery.

Have to disagree here. They weren't able to maintain it in the second half; our talent edge and depth made the difference in the game. Once Hageman rounds into actual game shape and they get their five injured players back, Memphis will make lots of noise in their league.

I think Coach Caldwell has done an exceptional job both on the court and off it coaching her team.
I disagree with Memphis outplaying Tennessee.
I think they were competitive. I think Memphis wanted to build some momentum and felt this game was there moment to be in the spotlight.
However, Coach Caldwell and her staff too not just the players likely underestimated Memphis based on some of the predictable decisions made from the sidelines during this game.
The substitutions were not the most sound for the entire game and even when things are predetermined you have to have a Plan 1B and possibly 1C.
To me, this was the perfect game to provide a few minutes for a combination of reserves either Destinee Wells, Favor Ayodele, or Avery Strickland as opposed to the set minutes for Sara Puckett and Kaniya Boyd. Both struggled which is okay and I’m sure they’ll learn from it.
I think the coaches should carefully refocus Boyd on her playmaking skills as a facilitator coming out of HS.
If she’s going to play PG she has to create offense for her teammates.
That’s exactly what Destinee Wells provides when she steps on the court and is a good 3pt shooter.
I love playing Boyd when she doesn’t have to be the primary ball handler for about 10 minutes and if she’s got it going extend those minutes. But don’t just leave Destinee on the bench when she’s atleast showing she is making some progress.
So again, I respect Coach Kim for evaluating her team and hope that kind of reflection and self-evaluation is being had by the staff moving forward to find ways that they can be better prepared as coaches when Plan 1 is not being executed.

"adjusting to the (way that the game was being called) referees." I seldom hear that comment being made as a coaching comment to the players.

IMO the opinions of the boarders is that the team is far better than the coach believes. The January schedule is the reality test, with or without the coach delivering a baby and adjusting to having a child.

Caldwell sees the players every practice, every warmup, every game. I think she would know better than any of us if her team was outplayed. She knows exactly what her players are capable of because she has likely seen at least glimpses of brilliance from each player at different times in practice, so if she says they were outplayed, I believe her.

For sure, but also sprinkled in with every coach's love of grumpiness regarding her own team and with Kim's fierce embrace of her "Mean Chipmunk" persona.

This was a good game for the team they needed to face a guard that could handle the pressure she did a outstanding job was impressed even tho we wore her out as the game went on they needed to be in a game when the pressure dont work early how are u going to adjust this game still couldve been more than a 15 point win with all the missed layups

I think it was intended as more of a message to her team than anything else.
I bet we play better in the next two games than we did last night. Sometimes playing pays off more than practicing to get better when the games are close together. They certainly didn't outplay us the entire game we got after them in the third quarter and the fourth as well just missed to many easy ones in that last quarter. This team has a lot of upside more than any team we've had in the last several years. They have to raise their level of consistency not just play in spurts if were going to beat some of the best teams in the SEC. Talking about four top ten teams in one league and two or three more that are just below that level.

WHAT???

Don't whine and cut your wrists when the refs make the calls agin' us? Because they hate us and are paid or biased or...

Pay attention, sports official blamers. You've been called out. Learn.

I think 'outplayed' is just a matter of semantics. And I'm sure we'll argue about it into the forseeable future lol.

I think the second part of the quote tells the story--played harder and more sense of urgency. CKC wants those to be the LVs calling cards

My caveat to that is that Memphis is the first team they played against who could match their athleticism and speed across their line-up, particularly with DeeDee Hagemann in the line-up.

Sometimes playing harder also means we can get to the ball faster than you. In this game, it really was more of a 50-50 battle.

Memphis came out fired up on their homecourt and were beating the LVs at their own game in stretches. As you said earlier, we had more talent and some size advantages that eventually came to the fore.

We have been saying that high pressing is not a very effective strategy against a quality PG and we have seen that now. Hagemann had a nice game but she is going to be far from the best PG the LVs face this season.

So that will be an interesting aspect to watch as the season goes on.

My pet theory, is that all that dang blue paint scrawled all across the court through the LV's shooting off., That court design is a travesty. It should have been given two quick technical fouls and ejected from the game.

Seems like the studio pundits and courtside commentators are asking the same thing that’s on all our minds. Can they win with this style against teams with equal or better talent? The FSU and Iowa games are evidence that they can but it’s not going to be easy or pretty. Memphis game showed that also.
